this is what I'm talking about. The key is sandwiched between the two sides of the LCA. I have the arm loose but it won't go past the key

It doesn’t go in that far. It stops st the outer edge of the arm. Must be rusted in. Fluid and tapppy tap tap. The “key” stays where it is.

There is no KEY in the LCA! Looks like you've wrecked your LCA prying away, that does not come out!

When you hit the bar to go out the rear... don't forget to remove the snap ring that retains it.

That LCA looks bent from this angle. You maybe searching for a replacement soon.

thank you for trying to help everyone. I'm so frustrated right now I feel like just selling this car. So I've wrecked the lower control arm and still haven't got it to detach but now I kind of understand how it is supposed to come apart. I did not realize the torsion bar goes into the big part of the lower control arm. I thought the two inch round piece was part of the torsion bar.

ThAts not worth selling the car over. They are cheap. Carry on. We all learn here. Some lessons just cost more or less than others!

I think the first purchase should be a Factory Service Manual. It has some pretty good pictures and descriptions on most subjects.

I'm screwed. I can't get the control arm off now which means I can't get the torsion out. I don't know how to resolve this. I'm downloading the manual now.

If you have a second pair of hands try this. Sit on the ground so you pull from front of car on control arm. Don't let the pivot on the front stab you if it comes loose! Have friend pull up and down on T-bar while your pulling, wear gloves. Friend doesn't have to go crazy with the up and down. Maybe first do the up and down with friend while you hammer on Lower control arm. Still think your not raising front of T-bar near control arm, raise control arm as high as you can lift it, no jack, just you. find something that only lets T-bar near control arm down an inch. Then try to pound T-bar out the front from the rear.

Slide the rubber seal ahead on the bar. Tap the whole shebang back towards the rear again. Clean the socket and spray some lube in there. It will come out the front to. It probably just has dried up 50 year old grease in there. Highly unlikely it would rust or have any other form of blockage with the seal on it.

Ok thanks. Will give those a try tomorrow. I'm not quite sure if I have screwed the lower control arm as it's not bent but it is off the "mount" for the lack of better words. can this be rebuilt?

Can probably be put back into place, looks like you have it jammed and not in the LCA "arm" hole on one side. Buy PST reinforcement plates and I bet with the two arms clamped in the proper "spread" the plate can be welded on and it'll be like new again.

                    Where in Ontario are you???

I run #7 a fair bit actually. Not a big deal for me to go all the way to Smiths Falls and back in a day! 11 hours of driving.
