Turn the key and nothing happens..... HELP

Okay, I wonder why it turns funny when its flipped?

I wonder if the choke plate is open or closed when he's starting it?

My electric choke wire broke off when taking the heads out and so i just used one of those crimp heat shrink splices to connect the wires again. If this was a bad connection could this be a cause to my problem?

Oh, i though because I have a 4 pin ecu that the wire going to the bottom one was dead so i didnt need it?? If the resistor looks like this :==: , Then the bottom left pin has the dead wire thats not connected to anything, so do i have to connect it over?

Get the ballast wires fixed right FIRST...make another jumper wire up and put it in the bottom connectors...show us a picture that you have done this before going any further....otherwise we are wasting our time here...

unplug the choke ,and shim the choke door open for now, we need not worry about it at this point...lets get it running first...

well, if thats the case, then leave it like it is...

and you never answered my question on the last page about the original ignition system....do you still have it?????

you may have damaged the aftermarket ECU with all this wiring crap that happened....so it might be best at this point to put the OEM ignition system back on it, as long as it was in good working order prior to removal...

ok...i just tested my car with only the one side ran through the resistor(i have a 4 pin ECU also) and it runs fine, so you are good to go there :)

YES, you cannot be for certain that the aftermarket system is good after the wiring snafu you had...it could have cooked that ecu...So just for shits-n-giggles:p, lets put the oem system back on it, since you know it was good prior to removal...

and it's afternoon coffee time

****, I would love a cup of coffee right now. I saw that ballast resistor and thought "oh no, there's trouble."

yeah, i thought the same, then he explained that he had a 4 pin ecu...so i dug into the wiring diagram and seen that the bottom pins on the ballast are indeed not used with a 4 pin ecu..I also confirmed it with my ecu(which is also a 4 pin unit)...It started up and ran as normal with only the top poles ran thru my resistor...

but i'm still in the mindset that his aftermarket ecu may have been compromised/damaged...and even if it hasn't, it will still be easier to diagnose problems with the stock system in place vs. some aftermarket stuff...

and while we wait....some music :p

this song came on while i was driving the RR home earlier....my car liked it, i was sitting on 80mph before i realized it lol

Agreed. I've had issues with my orange box ECU too (but not cause I smoked it). And starter relay, and voltage regulator and neutral safety switch. Got doubles of all that stuff in the trunk now.

My company firewall won't let the video show, but let me guess, Sammy Hagar "I can't drive 55"?

Following this thread is not only painful, but entertaining and informative all at once. Someotherguy & 440Beep deserve an award for perseverance and dedication to helping this young guy out of a difficult situation. I was just talking to a friend about this, and a good idea would be for 74Runneer to buy and online or hard copy of the appropriate factory service manual. He seems very computer literate, so understanding the manual should be a walk in the park. It is always welcome to receive good solid advice from experienced hands, but the good book will always add value to mix.

Well done guys.....let's hope that Roadie is up and flying soon. :)

maybe it's running..?

Yea, he probably got it running, got so excited, and is out now tearing up the streets with it!!!

maybe it's running..?

And the funny thing is, I've only had my car for 2 years now and didn't no jack about these old cars. But between my good friend and the members here, I've learned alot. The initial write-up I did with testing the relay and NSS was all from what I learned from members here. Go back and find my recents posts where others helped me out. So now I'm being thanked, and I'm thanking the other members here for helping me so that I can pass on the wisdom.

Me too...This is the first classic car i've ever owned, had it since April of 2012...I modded many cars/trucks over the years, but this one has been the most rewarding project i have ever encountered...:)

learning how to do body work, and paint have been a struggle to say the least, but i am getting better at it...As a matter of fact, i'm getting ready to re-paint mine next week, as i screwed up the first time lol :) I hope this one turns out better than the first one...

Okay im back! No i havent got it running. It cranks normal on this side now so i guess thats good. Should I go all the way back to my original ignition or just the ecu. Should i go one at a time so i know which is bad?
