took the wife to get eye exam and new eye glasses (for both of us).......we were way over due for an update...... we considered it a Christmas gift for both of us
If you're asking if the circuit boards in the trains were for the lights, they were not. Power picked up from the rails came through two black wires to yellow wire nuts. Each wire nut had twisted together the track power lead, a power feed to the circuit board (either gray or brown), and a skinny red wire that fed the headlight. Then red and black wires fed power from the circuit board to the DC can motor. One circuit board would provide no power to the motor and the other only provided reverse polarity power. It took less than 10 minutes to remove the circuit boards from both locomotives and get them going again. No idea why Lionel over complicated these things that were marketed for Children to play with. Were those for the lights?
AC trains do that. DC trains do the same thing but use a circuit board to reverse polarityDoesn't Lionel reverse "automatically" by stopping then starting?
IE no control on the power pack- you wanna stop and then go the same way----nuh uh.
I've done that a time or two!Just hangin in the shop with my buddy, staring at cars we should be working on..
