What starter is best for my 72 Satellite 400ci

This is the starter that matches the BBB N17466, which appears to be Napa p#2446415. These pictures are off two different websites, showing the front and back of the part. Fits 91-95 Dodge Dakota 5.2L. Does this appear to be the correct part to fit my 400 ci?

That sounds and looks like what I used, that block with the the studs is where I had problems with clearance. You can buy a sock for the starter itself, it's basically a reflective sock that insulates and shields the starter. Never used one but places like Summit and Jegs sell them.

Ok thanks I'll look for the heat shield with those guys. Is it easy to install the soft shield after installing the starter? Or must it be done at the same time?

Also, there are two starters available, Dakota 91-95 and looks like 95+. Will both fit? If so I'll try and pick the smaller one

I have a 440 with headers in my 69 Dart. I had to use the small starter because it was so tight. I think I got it from Mancini Racing. (Been a long time). I just used the basic starter heat wrap from Jegs/Summit. Hose clamps hold it on. It gets very hot under there but it seems to be OK.

The only wire mod I had to do when I used the bbb starter was to bend one of the positive battery cable eyelets so it would screw onto the threads. .very simple. .i would also bolt the positive cable on the starter first and then stick it up into position. .otherwise it may be impossible to start the nuts on the post because they are close to the engine block when the starter is installed. .the starters I use are for a mid 90s dodge Dakota. Part number n17466. I just put that starter on my 72 charger 400

If that's the case, you might need to use the pictured terminal block kit to move the wires away from headers.

Yes the starter I got actually had pole extensions on it, we'll see if better with or without.

I plan to order the basic starter heat shield pouch
