I must've cracked the upper hose nipple when I pulled thos out of the car in fall of 2015.
I was thinking of going with an aluminum one anyway. I guess that plan will get clicked into high gear. What's the 956 worth? Trying to decide if it's worth keeping and having Glen Ray fix it or just sell it off.

Save it. Acid core flux and a torch good as new. Mine was leaking around the fill spout. I hit it with sand paper brought it to nice new brass the used a torch and acid core solder and fixed it right up. 12.00 fix. Forgot to mention flux... Gotta use flux..

Hell... if it's that easy I'll fix it and run it, lol.

how much you looking to get?

I promise you its that easy. Just try not to overheat the other areas. Try not to get the brass turning brown. You just need to make it hot enough for the solder to liquefy and the flux should pull it in. It has to be acid core, flux core is no good for this.

Walmart sells acid core flux. Its like 6.00 or so funny enough the picture on the package shows them fixing your exact problem.

Try not to over heat the brass until it turns brown.. Just take your time and not to get other solder joints too hot. Othewise you may have to re-flow those joints.

Fixed my old Rx7 radiator.. But that was solder chasing 101.. I would fix one spot but it heated other joints and had to fix them as well. I learned from that mistake. The Roadrunner radiator went like a dream. If you lived in the atlanta area I would fix it for you.

Just make sure its good and clean, free of paint. Might not hurt to wire brush deeper into the crack. That way you have a good bond deeper in there.

In my personal opinion old brass and copper radiators are well worth fixing. Think about it. That thing is nearly 50 years old and still holding water. The new aluminum and plastic ones are just junk. An aluminum one with aluminum tanks is as good as the old copper stuff. But I prefer the old radiators. In most cases with the old stuff morons like me can fix them. Unless you have a tig welder you and I cant fix the aluminum ones.

I think it can cost upwards of 600.00 to re-core a "numbers matching radiator" if you have that type of car. You want your tanks to be numbers correct for your car. An aluminum radiator wont get you there.

Add to the ebay price info Glen-ray sells good repros of the 956 around $1300.
With that crack, it must be only worth a couple hundred. I'd be glad to scrap it for you, be there in an hour.

X2 Seriously though, keep it stored for the car.

I do not believe its a crack. Only the solder has come loose. He may even get away with just a reflow. the pictues below are where i overheated the tank on the RX7 radiator and had to chase the damn leak all around. I was trying to use flux core. Thats where i messed up.

I cracked one of mine the other way.
It had been bend out of round and wouldn't seal.
I pushed a socket into it and made it round again, but cracked it.

A local guy said he'd charge $20 to braze it if it was difficult, and free if it was easy.

I had thought about using plumbing solder. Now maybe I'll try it.
It's a '74, but it's a 3 core.

I soldered it this morning with acid core repair solder. It isn't pretty but it's holding water. We'll see what happens when I pressure test it.

I laid the rx7 radiator on its back capped off the lower outlet. Put gallon of water or so in it. Used a spray can top from I think it was PAM "Wife wasn't too happy" drilled a hole in it big enough for my air gun to poke through. And put some pressure on it to check for leaks.

If its an actual crack and not a solder joint, brazing is the way to fix that. I would not solder an actual crack. Brazing rods are great and easy to use you just need a hotter torch than say a walmart torch.
