Who is still rockin' a turntable?

Yup, have a couple still. Old Ken wood, pioneer and jvc. NuMark to convert all those albums to digital. I haven’t even started that yet! Still love listening to vinyl!

Technics SL-D2, playing through a pre-amp to my receiver. Part of my Living Room multimedia set-up. On Christmas Day all the old Christmas Albums will be getting spun!

All 3 of my older brothers were Vietnam Vets. They all came back with top of the line Japanese reel to reels - I think sansui was the brand. They also came back with the most awesome speakers in these beautiful wood cabinets. I think the stuff is still in the family somewhere. Music was an obvious distractions for the guys while over there. Me - I missed the draft by a few years and went to college instead.

I know the topic is "turntables" but another GREAT analog AUDIO record/playback format is a high quality stereo VCR. Run at the "best quality" recording speed, they will judiciously copy any audio that you record to the tape.
If you set the VCR speed for EP or longest recording time, you can make a nice 6 hour tape "cassette"...

I can't help myself, so forgive me.
After being around music my whole life (my grandfather was a professional musician and held other jobs too) my dad had and has some great audio video gear, and I was in the Electronics and Home Theater business from 1990 to 2009. I've sold and installed some of the best (without getting into the most elite stratosphere of gear, although I've been around it).
Anyway, when my bank account caught up to my wish list, through a decade of shopping and buying, here are some of my picks that I got for myself.
All Klipsch speakers except for the subwoofer.
Theater Room L,C,R front speakers are KLF-30 Legends 1" tweeter horn, 1.5" midhorn, 2 x 12" woofers, 102dB sensitivity to 32Hz.

1972 Thorens TD160 turntable with my 1960 HH Scott LK72 amp. I have an audio club - get together on Thursdays to listen to vinyl and we restore vintage equipment. List is way too long to mention but definitely have some rare stuff (both records and equipment.) Vinyl is king!

All my modern gear is in a separate listening room. Love my music - couldn't live without it...

Nice gear!! I see the Panamax power conditioning surge protector too. Gotta have a really good one for audio video!

When I'm hooked up, I have a pair of Klipsch Tangents, that do more then just rock the house. BTW, they are what's wrapped up in the grey blankets by the records in my bedroom.

Home Theater 9.1 Reciever circa 2005. This is the ONE I wanted for years!

I actually selected an outboard amplifier to power my L, R front speakers.
It's a 5 channel amp set to use all 5 amplifiers into 2 channels (BTL Mode)

Both the reciever and the amp weigh about 64 pounds each!

Sweet, I bet that shakes the crap out of the entire house!
The Trinity SuperCube is rated to 10Hz!
Anything below 20Hz is subsonic...
  • Frequency Response: 10 Hz – 200Hz
  • Driver Complement: Two 14" long-throw SuperCube Technology subwoofers coupled to four 14" infrasonic radiators
  • Built-in Amplifier: 2000 watts Digitally-Coupled Class D Amplifier

This awesome stuff,I dont have any pics but up I run a set of ohm walsh2's and out back some series 4 Bose 901's that bought off trade in back in 1982. Its a testament that like old mopar's, vinyl is in the blood also.

Cool speakers.
I am a major classic rock fan. For me, there isn't much of anything that I listen to that was performed originally outside of 1965-1985 with the emphasis on the 70s and 80s.
I really enjoy listening at LOUD levels, and that brings me to a point.
I am certain that those speakers sound great. I noticed their efficiency is rated at 88dB. Efficiency doesn't affect the way they sound, but it dramatically affects how much power it takes to drive them.
In order for our ears to "perceive" doubling the volume level requires about a 10dB increase in sound output.
Plugging your speakers in to this 100 watt amp formula gives:
Screenshot_20181210-191344_Chrome.jpg

101.5dB
Using the same formula, but plugging in 102dB efficiency (Klipsch KLF-30) gives this:
Screenshot_20181210-191417_Chrome.jpg

So at the same power output, the 102dB speakers play appx 40% louder.
Even if you don't like listening to music at loud volume, the more efficient speaker offers another advantage.
Using the same formula, to achieve the same SPL (Sound Pressure Level) or volume,
The 102 dB efficiency speakers only require 4 watts instead of 100 watts, and THAT is where the cleaner sound comes from a more efficient speaker. At 4 WPC an amplifier has way, way less distortion than at 100 WPC.

Another way of looking at it is how many watts would it take for the 88dB speakers to reach 115dB that the 102dB rated speakers put out in SPL (volume) at 100 watts?
Using the formula:
Screenshot_20181210-193150_Chrome.jpg

It would take 2,500 watts per channel for the 88dB speakers to play as loud as the 102dB speakers play with only 100 WPC.
Speaker efficiency vs Amplifier power 101
is concluded...:D

Wow that's way to much thought put in to that lol. I bought them In 1982 as the amp i had was a meager 100 watt jvc and on my budget that was about it. The 901's where about 2years old and i got them for $500. A steal back in the day.

Bitchin! You should listen to a song from Deadmau5 called Strobe. I bet that thing will vibrate the crap out of everything. Would be awesome to hear it on that system! Its a long song, with slow build up, its 10:30 minutes, its also electronic, so may not be for everyone
