2012 DTA JRO 914 Gyrocopter

I’m looking into buying this plane this year. I’ll need conversion lessons to transition to rotary wing. 10 hours of instruction for a logbook sign off.

Project Aphrodite, during WWII, was an experiment at remote control cruise missiles. Taking worn out bombers - B-17s and B-24s, they had all the excess weight stripped out of them; guns, armor, oxygen tanks etc. so they were about six tons lighter. Then they had a radio remote control system fitted, and were loaded up with Torpex, which was the highest yield conventional explosive at the time...about eleven or twelve tons of the stuff, making for potentially far more of a blast than any tall boy bomb. After take-off, the pilot would arm the explosives, set the autopilot for radio control, and bail out. Another high flying aircraft would take over control and guide it to the target. Targets at the time were missile sites and submarine pens.

Here's a story of a pilot involved in that top secret project as he was being interviewed:

Operation Anvil, the same as Project Aphrodite but navy
one notable pilot death was that of Lt Joseph P Kennedy Jr, USNR, the elder brother of John F Kennedy

Im not necessarily an aircraft fan persay. But I work at an airport with an air force base right next door. So I get to see some pretty cool stuff just about daily.
Took this one a few months back.,

was in right place at right time I guess.

Davis-Monthan!

DM is about 5 miles away. The 192nd ANG is actually connected to the Tucson Airport where I work.

F16s coming and going all day long. DM planes also do training flights as either flyovers or sometimes overnite parks on the ramp.
So we see C130s, to the A10s and even some really big boys

Even seen a few F22s flying around last week
( not my picture btw )

Start worrying if you see B1-B's and B-52's for quick refuels!!
