I had to wait until I was 33 to find "the perfect woman" even though I first saw a picture of her when I was 21.

I could have "settled" a couple of times along the way but chose not to.

I am "eccentric" and do not suffer fools well.

...as is she, although I don't think she realized how eccentric she was until she started hanging out with me.

I have always joked that I would never go out to the garage and find that one of the cars decided to find a new owner, that it spent money I don't have, or find it having sex with a corvette.

As a kid growing up my dad was strict on me (being the only boy w/three sisters) and one of his pet peeves was NOT to touch cars at car shows (or anywhere in that matter). At the time I thought he was going over board but I followed his rule and the only time I touched a car was my 1st time.

Fast forward to today, I'm so glad I received the discipline that I got growing up. A lost art in today's parenting. So w/o permission from the owner of the car, I will not touch the car even it's a beater. I can't stand it when I see a group of men at a car show/event form a conversation and they start leaning on the car nearest to them.

To the OP, sorry I went of topic.

Years ago, a friend of mine had me to his house for dinner and then took me for a ride in his Ferrari. I look back and feel really stupid because he was showing me something in the engine compartment and being short, I leaned just lightly on the fender. He didn't say anything but I realized immediately that I shouldn't have done that. I didn't do any harm but haven't forgotten the experience. And like you, very respectful of other peoples cars (even if it's a fargin Mustang :)). I have helped my competition if I see them doing something that is going to cause damage. I'll probably get crap for saying this but there are a lot of Chevy guys around here and they don't seem to have a lot of respect for their cars.

I was fascinated at one car show where I watched, and almost said something but was intrigued by the body language and figured I would just clean it later, a woman run her fingers possessively, caressingly down the fender of my Barracuda convertible. I remember the look on her face...she was in love! 99% of the time, I'm not far from my car and watch it like a hawk and will say something if someone has the nuts to touch it. I work too hard on these vehicles and have tremendous respect for them and thank God they still exist. These muscle cars are the epitome of American car design and production, this is true performance and art. Just my opinion and I'm sticking to it. I've also been told by people who do bodywork that it doesn't take much to damage sheet metal. I'm not psyched up about fixing and repainting something because of carelessness. :blah::blah::blah:

I stand corrected, you're absolutely right, your car IS just a "fucking car, just a toy". You've proven it's not important if you don't care that someone sitting on the hood might damage the sheet metal. Good for you!
Conversely, ALL of MY cars ARE important. Maybe you didn't have to work for your car, maybe you don't work on it. I worked my ass off getting these cars and restoring them and caring for them and value my time and money. I'll beat the f**king sh*t out of any idiot who has the lack of respect to touch my, someone elses, private property because they think it's a "toy" or have some other really stupid idea that it's not important. That WILL be their problem, not mine.
But since you don't care about your car, can I come over and take a photo of my 426 Hemi on your hood? At least for a brief moment, your car will be important.

As much as it annoys ME to hear it, I'm suggesting that you R E L A X.
                  They are just cars.
I love them too, man. I have 2 of the models that I have wanted since the early 1980s. They are not perfect but they are just what I wanted. If a kid or an elderly person walks past it and has to put a hand on the car to keep from falling, so what?
Now, if an able bodied person intentionally messed with the car, that is a different matter. If a person of any age is clueless and careless...causing some accidental damage, I'd deal with it in a manner that is appropriate.
I can fix almost any damage short of an explosion or a raging fire meltdown.

Touching, leaning on, what are usually obviously "special" cars, and those who do it, whether children or adults, is prima facie evidence of either someone who had/have parents who let "their" kids do anything, no discipline, because they obviously think WAY too much of themselves, or no parents at all, or a total disregard for other people's property.
I'm sure that lack of respect and discipline affects their lives in a negative manner, or if it hasn't, it's just a matter of time.
There are 2 incidents that I can think of.
One was the most important car show of my life. The World of Wheels in the Louisiana Superdome. My parents' first date was the World of Wheels, back in 1961. I went just about every year, and for a long time I never thought I'd have a car nice enough to be in that show. My interest in cars kept me going, and many of my friends were into cars, and most of us all had "something" cool to roll around in, and some of them had cars in that show. Well my Roadrunner was nice enough to make the cut, and I won a 3rd place plaque, behind 2 other 70 Roadrunners, brothers who are friends of mine, and their cars are extremely "correct", and I have no question that they both should have placed ahead of me.
Still, I won an award and recognition at a show that I never thought I'd be in, that my parents may have thought I may never have a car in.
So some kid who should have been on a leash ran his fingers down the side of my car, and I asked him not to touch the cars, and by the snarky comment his dweeb, obviously leftist father made, well that told me a lot right there, and everything I said about people like that is true. They want to tell everyone else what to do, but they are a pitiful excuse for someone who lives in a civil society.
The other time was a guy actually had the balls or the lack of brain cells to know better, and reached in my car to show someone with him the "beep beep" horn.
I asked him in a tone and manner that made my displeasure obvious "Would you like the keys and you can take it for a drive?!" Then he mentioned those same 2 brothers w/the beautiful 70 Roadrunners, and I gave him a break but made it clear that I didn't appreciate what he did, and I know HE KNEW he was wrong.
                    @440+6 :
No, they aren't "just fucking cars", at least not to a LOT of US. They are reminders of past times, experiences, ERAS when our lives were still mostly ahead of us. Great times, times that we were fortunate to have, because a lot of stuff like that doesn't happen anymore. They are TIME MACHINES that take us back to when we were younger and having a BLAST being crazy and hanging out with our friends and hundreds of other people were doing the same. Celebrating life, the end of another work week, school week, or both.
They are the embodiment of a desire fulfilled, worked for, waited for, and then when we finally found "the one" we traded our time, our money, our sweat and toil for them, and couldn't be happier with the trade. We take care of them, and enjoy the work involved in that care.
There's way too much to describe why our cars aren't "just fucking cars" but for someone with an attitude like yours, my explanation in this post isn't so much for you, or people like you, because that's probably wasted on you. It's for those like me, like QOTHL, like most on this forum who "get it" and because I am right there with QOTHL, and I'd say that just like this post being for people like me, QOTHL shouldn't bother to exchange posts with you, because it's a waste of time...

Thanks for the advice, you're entitled to your opinion - like assholes, everyone has one. You do whatever you want with your car but don't tell me my cars are "just cars". I know how CA is full of people who probably don't think anything about private property because the state is run by a bunch of damned Democrats like Jerry Brown. Most of the biggest idiots in Congress come from that state, gee, aren't you proud? The biggest damn commies in the country. So I'm not surprised that you would say something like that. People who think they are "just cars" are the ones that won't care if they do damage, that's what you don't get and promoting that idea is...to be polite...not a good idea.

So I guess this would be a bad time to show me or the wife sitting on the wing of our own Bird that I worked damn hard for, work on, etc. It's ours to do so as we choose. Now would either of us, or any of our kids (from the time they were two) ever touch someone elses car, not a hope in hell.. or a severly sore ass on a kids part! That said.. anyone including the wife sits on my Bee after a 3000 hour resto, they're not going to like the outcome.

Couldn't have said it better myself. All I could add is the importance of these cars historically as products of one of the greatest eras of American automotive manufacturing. My deep appreciation for these vehicles goes back to how this country was founded and how we've changed the world, in spite of what idiots in the Democrat Party say, for the better. It's too bad most Americans take this for granted.

You will take a different tone with me or you will find yourself wishing that you did.
Ignorant is the man that assumes the burden another man carries.
Would it be fair to assume that you are a sister screwing, toothless redneck.... wearing overalls while making moonshine because you live in Kentucky?
                            No, it would not.
You have not been here long enough to know the members well. If you had more than 340 posts in 2 1/2 years, you'd know something about me or others here. Until you do, pay attention and you'll learn something. Don't assume my political leanings because of the state that I live in. It will only make you look ignorant, or more-so anyway.

DodgeCharger.com seems to be dealing with some flaming libs lately too...

                              Moving on...
I don't touch a strangers car. It pisses me off to see dorks do this at car shows.
Don't misinterpret "Just a car" from my posts as meaning that I don't respect or care about mine or yours. I'd fight to protect mine.
I'd defend yours against a stranger trying to do damage as well.
Just a car to me means that each situation could be different. Yeah, I'd be pissed if someone scratched or dented it but the aftermath and the level of ire I'd reach would be dependent on the details. Would you beat an 80 year old man's ass if he blacked out and fell against the car? I really hope not.

KernDog, QOTHL doesn't know you, I think you may like each other, because I know both of you.
QOTHL, KernDog isn't as you seem to portray in your post, but I know you're fired up.
I'll ask both of you to take a step back, and get to know each other better, you may like what you see, when you see enough to see clearly.
I am not of the same opinion as you on this KernDog:
Both the GTO my wife has, and my Roadrunner, are very unique and special to us, and to our closest family and friends, for reasons that we know, but would take more time than I will take. A couple of examples are the GTO is a 65, and my dad raced his 65 in 65 at the race track where I first ran the 1320, at 16, in my 71 Charger R/T. He still has the 1st Place trophy. My wife wants to beat his winning time, which he had said was 12.8, but just recently said 12.9. He is having some memory problems, God bless him, that is especially difficult for someone who has lived a hypervigilant life, by profession and by nature. That same car was the result of a 6 year search, after missing one similar to it, although I like this one better. There's more, but that's a sample, just about the GTO.
My Roadrunner, yellow and black. Just like my 71 Charger R/T back when I used to cruise the Lakefront in New Orleans, and the local street race scene. One really cool thing is the Roadrunner is WAY faster than the Charger, and has a manual transmission, 6bbl, etc. As I was looking for my own muscle car, a month after my wife "beat me to it" and found the GTO, my price range was around $40K. When I found a real V-code Roadrunner I "fell in love" with it, but they were asking $59,999 and I figured I was too far away to make the ends meet. Well I sure was surprised when they got "close enough" for me to reach above my limit to make the deal happen. I left on a Friday after work with my best friend, and we were "on a mission" just to cover the distance, do the transaction, and make it back home. That best friend who went with me? The guy I've known since before I had that 71 Charger R/T, who used to go cruising with me way back when. The same guy who I introduced to the owner of a 70 Roadrunner back when we were teenagers, and my friend made a deal and bought that 70 Roadrunner, 383, pistol grip 4 speed. That inspired me to look for a 70 Roadrunner, although I started looking at 68/69 Coronet R/T or Super Bee cars. Oh, and my parents bought a 69 Roadrunner in 69, and the time my dad caught a speeder with my mom and me in the car was the day I knew Mopar was MY car.
Yeah, MY CARS aren't "just cars"....

If you are referring to QOTHL, you couldn't be more wrong. The posts in the political forum alone would be evidence of how wrong that portrayal is.
I think everyone should take a step back and chill. I know for a fact that all involved have WAY more in common than differences between us.

Even I wouldn't do that, neither would QOTHL. It's getting late on the Kentucky and Louisiana side of the country. Probably a good time to take a break and cool off.

I don't have to assume anything. Your comment said it all. Devalue private property and then it becomes much easier for those in power to steal it.
Is that a threat? Go suck an egg, sonny.
As for number of posts, I've been too busy working on my cars.
