I have a friend who's got a 71 Air grabber setup he's probably going to be looking to sell & he has no idea what's a fair asking price...
The hood itself is absolutely dent/ding/rust free top & bottom.... The bubble, door & box are reproduction parts.... As bought the parts are rough but he's taken the time to finish everything, he's modified the hood, fitting & installed the hardware, worked on the fiberglass bubble to correct the molded in defects... At the point everything is ready to paint.... He doesn't have the trap door, actuator or bracket..

Was the hood an original air grabber hood or is it a flat Satellite hood modified to accept the air grabber parts?

It's not flat but it is a Satellite hood, it's the hood with the raised hockey sticks and the depression where the bubble fits....

I could be wrong but… I thought the Air Grabber hood was the same as a Satellite. It looks the same anyway.

I think I've seen flat hoods, but there are also the hoods with the proper shape to be an air grabber hood...

The A/G hood used the Satellite flat hood skin and modified structure. A flat Satellite can be converted into a A/G hood.

It’s been a while, but my brother had a ‘71 2 door Satellite with a 318/904. It had the hood with the recessed area that an Air Grabber would have gone in. I never saw a 2 door Satellite with a different hood. The 4 door had a totally different front end and hood. Here’s a survivor ‘71 with an Air Grabber, and it’s original In Violet paint.

Usually the lack of the welded nuts on the inside of the structure for the actuator is the dead give away that it is a converted Satellite hood and not an original A/G hood.

A complete original setup with everything except the hose and switch in good condition is 3500.00 all day long and probably going up as we speak.
A nice original non-modified hood alone in good not rusty condition is 1500-1800.00. A converted Satellite hood done right is probably half that.
The Stinger reproduction bubble fits like ****. Not sure about the PG one. Check their sites for their prices.

You said that he modified the hood? How so?
He cut the hole for the scoop and made a few access holes for hardware, copied of an original hood... He may have added the nuts for the actuator, I'll need to check... If he hasn't I'm sure he will, he has the skills and access to an original hood to copy... I think this was Stinger parts but I'm not sure... He spent time doing glass work & it fits very well... He owns four nice restored cars that he did all the work on, he's been doing body & paint as a hobby for forty plus years....

The flat/hockey stick 71/72 Satellite hoods can be converted to accept the air grabber bubble and hardware,Moparmarks is spot on on the values too. People will not pay the 3 to 4 grand original air grabber hoods bring with all factory Mopar parts for a converted Satellite hood with aftermarket reproduction pieces on it. $1500 sounds about right for this one still needing a few pieces,$1800 if complete ready to paint and install on a car.

That's what threw me off. I've never heard them called hockey stick hoods. LOL.
I haven't heard them refered to as hockey stick hoods either, but after I read it I knew what he was talking about. I have one that is waiting for me to get time to convert it for my friends 72 Road Runner GTX . I already painted his set of 15x7 rallye wheels so he can get rid of those ridiculous dog dish hubcaps that has become a sick fetish in the Mopar hobby the last few years. This car was an original N96 car that a previous owner swapped out the hood, note the stripes on the trunklid.

So I coined a new descriptive term for the not really flat Satellite hood.... :carrot::lol:

It does fit,but I never heard it,we just referred to them as Satellite hoods or flat hoods
