Won't quite shift into reverse. Help !

I pulled out my steering column to fix my reverse switch,but to do that, I had to disconnect the two shift cables. When I put everything back and started the car, it would go into drive and neutral ok , but when I put it into reverse it chatters and wont quite go. Could I have the column not quite where it was ? Oh yeah, its a 65 dodge coronet 4-door 318 poly.

you need to drop your trans pan and go into nuetral and see where your nuetral detent is. you need to turn your dial on the outside of the case till the nuetral safety switch lines up with the rooster detent.
then go thru the gears again and back to nuetral to see if all lines up again.if its lined up correctly you'll be able to start your car in nuetral & park.
