Subaru is an interesting study in marketing. In the US, their advertising certainly targets the birkenstock wearing, granola eating androgynous leftist demographic. Aside from the adorable dog commercials, they are obviously slanted to the mask wearers and safety uber alles totalitarian snowflakes.
However, in other countries, they are seen as a performance car and their advertising reflects this. New Zealand is a good example - at least used to be. And the ownership demographics reflect this. Interesting how they "decided" to go the route they did in the US.
Theyre actually pretty nice cars and the performance versions are killer. The flat four is a stolen design from Alfa Romeo; Alfa even sued and won for patent infringement ; didnt stop subaru from continuing on. The [original - dont know about now] AWD was 'borrowed' from Ferguson and the unibody architecture of the earlier "modern" lines was GM. Buddy bought one of the REAL STi coupes bitd - man what a neat car! Id have two if they werent japanese...
