Man I haven't read your entire post. You have some great ideas . I think it's 100 percent awesome

Have you considered sending those panels to Just Dashes to have them covered with their vacuum formed process?

Jumping way ahead, what kind of exhaust tips are you going to use. I may know where to get two new factory truck chrome tips like this, with out the clamps, still wrapped in blue plastic.........

Umm...that kind? Yes, that kind exactly. How did you know? lol. The holes for the back up lights in the RR bumper are about 3" + a little. They will poke through just even with the face of the bumper so I don't catch a bare leg on a hot tip. Like this....

Not sure, but I think they are about 5 inches. I'll check later today and get back with you. If you like them, you can have them, price......... free.

I measured them and they are 4 inches around, outside diameter.

Got the rail sliced away from the donor frame and trimmed to fit in place on the Express. Lots of welding to do and clean up.

haven't checked in, in awhile
getting some progress Ghost :bananadance:

I like the style of the tailpipes/tips coming thru the bumper too

If Ghost can't use them, I still don't need them. If someone can great!!

Removed all of the paint from the donor part and finish trimmed it to fit. Welded it in place and then spot welded the flat base to the top surface of the tail light shell. No there's still small bits to fill in and finish stitching it up. The proof of concept was gratifying. Mounted the trunk latch in place and trimmed the rail to clearance it for the fingers and the loop on the underside of the trunk lid. I set the lid in place and it's slightly off, cocked towards the right rear corner about a 3/16". The rail is on there straight so the issue is with the underside of the lid. I will crawl inside the trunk tomorrow with a light and see what's up. I may have to do a slight clearance to get it to set right. For the trailing edge of the rail I guess I will apply some automotive sealer goop and let it harden then paint over it. I thought about another strip of metal along there but that's a lot of spot welds. I'm going to leave well enough alone. I also may need to trim 1/8" off all along the bottom edge of the inside panel for there to be room for the Velcro strips at the top.

I wish I lived closer to you, I would love to watch and help. This is not restoring a car, it's what I like to do, build a dream car. You're great at it!!!

Searched for and found the little nut strips that slide into the trunk hinges and put the trunk lid on. Got it all adjusted for all sides and corners and found out that my latch bar was missing the catch entirely. lol. So, after a bunch of fooling around, climbing in and out of the trunk with a flashlight, it's now latched closed. I have another problem now though. The corners on the rear window end are exactly in place but the center of the lid is below the cars panel next to it. So the corners need to go down and the center up. Suggestions? Plus I have to reach in there now from the back seat area to unlatch the damn thing...lol.

Go electric and put the switch under rear bumper.

Take a picture and post it!
