Have a question guys......

In your opinion's what is the best(performance) Head for serious street performance and occasional track outing's while on pump gas and somewhat nice street manner's. Looking to make 600hp/600lbs Trq?

Trying to decide my best bet for performance using a roller cam in a 505 stroker around 10.5 comp. Cost is not a concern as I want the best bang for the buck. The heads I'm looking into Indy EZ or 440-1, RPM Perf, Stealth and Victor. The head I purchase will be CNC ported, etc.

Please guys what should I do......

Thanks, Joe

If you only want 600hp.Go to a hydraulic roller and a set of ez heads with some valve work and bowl work.If you want to take advantage of the cubes.EZ cnc maxwedge ports,650 roller 260ish duration @50,and real close to 700hp or more.440-1 will need some port work to flow. They seem to be pretty choked down out of the box. They will make 600hp and up easy.CNC the -1 they are possible for 900hp.Easily will make a mid 700hp.505 you have alot of options, you can run a big port head and still have good driveability thanks to the 4.25 stroke.I really like the ez head with the maxwedge cnc program.I run them on my stuff. They put my pump gas 440 to a best of 10.77 @123.8mph race weight of 3700#.

call dwayne porter at porter racing heads, 1-802-951-1955. he's the mopar head guru. i've used him before; quality work at reasonable prices. his shop is in south burlington vermont, probably not too far from you.

By far the Indy heads would be the best money spent if you are looking for power and longevity of upgrading HP. The power levels you stated are fairly obtainable with Eddy's or Stealths. I bought Stealth heads for my 512 build because of the power level you are after plus the stock appearance when painted turquise. I guess it really comes down to your preference. I am happy with my purchase because it meets the needs of my build while retaining the stock appearance.
My 440/512: Weiand 8009 Action plus, Stealth heads, Eagle rotating Assy (4.25 stroke, 7.1 rod BBC journal), 10.5:1-11:1 compression, Comp Cams custom hydraulic roller (230/236 @ .050 w 1.6 Crane rockers 622/625 lift), Smith Bros push rods, and packaged in a stock looking 66 Satellite.

I know for me I went with the victor max wedge heads and they are at cnc port placed getting done it really depends on perference, there's a lot of good and bad about each company. For my heads I know they are getting over 400cfm flow with them, not sure about the others.

The Indy's start at $1800 bare, they can run up to & past $6k-$10k+ for a set & top end kit fully ported, depending on what style/models of heads chosen, I would go through Mancini Racing, Ray Barton or LaRoy Engines in Idaho for the best customer support & ported cylinder heads, no matter who's brand you choose... For the money & only 600hp-700hp range the Eddy RPM ported or the Eddy Victors ported in Max Wedge ports are a good middle of the road choice {kind of, the best bang for the buck}, I have run Indy EZ & H1, Brodix B-1, Edelbrock RPM & Victor, Stealth 1st edition, Mopar Performance Stage V & VI, all with great success, they all can do the job easily at the 600hp level, if ported & finished properly {you still need the properly matched, ignition, intake/induction & fuel system, exhaust, compression ratio, camshaft & valve-train components/systems, to compliment them, any brand}, the larger port Indys & Brodix are mainly for larger cubic inches engines &/or large roller high RPM cams, but will be able to be ported at much higher flow levels, but use a bunch of more expensive specialty valve train parts...

I would contact Nick Wilson at www.Compu-Flow.com and get a set of ported Indy EZ's
He can also spec you out a cam to put your where you want to be.
I am just a tick over 600 HP with a mild flat solid cam with my 493" with a set of Nick's heads.

This is so stinkin' easy. Get a set of Edelbrock RPM heads, get somebody to make 'em flow 305-310 cfm @ .600", use a roller cam around 250/255 @ .050" and about .590" lift, use an Edelbrock Victor, RPM Performer, or Torker II intake and you'll have 650 HP about 5700-5800 rpm and 650 TQ around 4400-4600 rpm. Bigger heads will go more if you want more but that is already beyond your stated goal. Already been der and dun dat with the above combination.

My 493 combo is close to Gus's (Fourgearsavoy) as I use Indy EZ heads and I got mine from Dwayne Porter for a great price. I believe Indy has them for about $1800. now. I also use a flat tappet cam speced by Dwayne Porter also. I went with the EZ heads over the Eddy RPM heads because the EZ heads have more potential if I want to step it up some later. You can see my 493 build at the bottom of the page when you click the link if you like. Ron

For your comb the ez with the max wedge port will be the best match. You will spend around $3,000.00 for a set of cnc ported heads including chambers.Set up with roller springs,5 angle valve job,and fresh surfaces and assembled.Set it up with 1.5 rockers, cam 260ish duration @50,lift 640ish,solid roller, indy single plane port matched,hp 1000 carb. The larger port heads and intake will help tame the low end grunt of the 4.25 stroke. So traction won't be a huge issue.Your power level will jump a great deal, closer to 700hp on pump gas.

Victor

You can do the study yourself, but I am partial to the Victor head.... They moved the valves and raised the ports to get beyond the limitations of the factory design. Look closely at many of the other replacement head designs more closely matching the port / valve arrangements as the factory. Now look down the port of a Victor design head and notice the lack of port pinch. I recently posted a link showing the dyno difference between Cast worked over heads, Eddy RPM, and Victor heads... As you might imagine, the numbers kept climbing...
Good luck with you decision,,, I am happy with mine!!!!:icon_cheese:

I would like to see some dyno results with the victors. They are very close to the 440-1 heads. The victors have a little smaller runners, but higher velocity.I have been looking at both the -1 and victors for the low deck build I am doing.Shooting for 850hp.I really can't make a solid decision.

There is a LOT of meat in these heads! I ported mine a bit before I put them on.

Okay, I know this isn't anything super spectacular, but with the Victors, an Indy single plane and a 1050 Dominator on our 500 ci motor we got 657.6 TQ @ 6000 rpm and 845.6 HP @ 7200 rpm. Ran out of dyno time before the tune was fully worked out. We were running on E85 and it made 680 HP at 12:1 AFR, 760 HP AT 11:1 AFR and the 840 HP @ 10:1 AFR. I think with some more fuel it still had some horsepower in it.

What kind of work was done to the victors?Valve size and port work.

Again, nothing fantastic. The intake flow followed along the advertised flow until .600-.800".

...............312cc
Lift........2.25 intake............1.81 exhaust

.100..........89.........................65
.200.........161.......................118
.300.........210.......................160
.400.........256.......................214
.500.........299.......................242........270 w/pipe
.600.........335.......................260........294
.700.........360.......................276........301
.800.........372

So what you are saying these are max wedge port heads with just a clean up and valve job. With of course matching springs and valve train.

What kind of compression did this engine have?
