Rear suspension woes

OK, check this out. Thinking I have a U-joint issue on hand through the grumble and gring sounds, I figured I have a week and get to it on Satyrday coming to do a swap out of the pair. There OE equipment from the '78 donor car .... it's time.

I jack up the Magnum, chok the wheels, slide in a stand, lay down the cardboard behind the bumper and swing on in. I get to about the rears pumpkin and noticed..................

Left /drivers axle Rear Shackle U-Plate ripped, inside, the outside

Passenger side inside, pass. outside, a pair of shots.

OK, thats the bad news. I called up a buddy in the "Been there done that!" deparment in Ct. state. He also owns one of these late B bodies. I told him I found this part from Auto Rust Technicians in Rhode Island. But it was listed for F/M/J cars. According to autrust guys, it'll work, but not being to OK with the way the convo went, I figured a quick call would help.

My bud confirmed it would but the Poly biscuts would be a tad to thick. They sandwhich the spring for ride comfort dampening road feel making the ride a little smoother. He thinks there a tad shorter in length.

I don't know how I'm going to "MILL" the biscut down for a better fit? :rolling:
How do you thin down a poly brick. There rectangle. Something like 2 wide, 5 - 6 long, half inch or so thick.

Glad you caught it before they went COMPLETELY. Thankfully, fixing it is not terribly difficult.

It is ethier an attempt with FMJ parts or swap it out for a older 8-3/4. (Which wouldn't be hurting my feelings, just the wallet.)

YES! I grabbed OE parts in excellent shape from a fella in New Jersy for the price of a dinner at a local pub house.
I'll snap some shots and update the thread later for ya.
