hello, I purchased 2 3" magnaflow stainless mufflers " pn 12229" that are 14" long and basisicly straight through with just an s bend inside them, are these gonna get me tickets you think? haven't put the exhaust on yet and just wondering if I should go with 2 20" or longer muffler right off the bat? I will have electric cutouts so I want something that doesn't piss the neibhors off too bad but yet sounds good! going to be on a supercharged 500" stroker

The cops will have a hard time catching you in a supercharged 500" stroker. I would guess it depends on the cops around your area. I have 3" TTI headers with Dynomax mufflers that are loud, but not earth shaking loud and I have never been pulled over in it in the last five years.

I agree it should be pretty hard for a cop to give a guy in a nice b body a ticket!!! my only concern is going for a morning drive at 8am Saturday and waking up the neiborhood! what length dynomax mufflers are you running if you don't mind me asking? I believe the ones tti sells are like 28" long and are not straight through so my guess is they would be a lot quieter than the 14" s chamber magnaflow

I have 14" Dynomax Ultraflo's they're loud but not obnoxious. It also makes a huge difference which way you're aiming them... if it's side exit it would be more of in issue than out the back but unless the cops where you are get super aggressive about this stuff it really should not be an issue.

Found your build thread looks like it's going to be quite a monster. Black BDS Blown 70 Charger you know it has me thinking of F&F Dom's car lol

I've got something similar going on but Centrifugal in the works not Roots

Lookin great!! That's mean! Which electric cut-outs are you going with? I want to add some to mine and thinking of going Doug's because I like the guillotine edge instead of a butterfly

I went with dmh, best warranty from what I could see, i'm sure they all get gummed up so if a guy keeps em clean they are probably all comparable

I have a pypes stainless 2.5 inch exhaust with a x pipe, and I'm running the 18 inch magnaflows. To me, they sound just right. they are loud, but now too bad. I think the 14 inch mufflers would be pushing it. I'm running a 400 big block too.

ok, thank for the info, I might slip on the 14's while there doing the exhaust and if there too much ill just go the parts store and buy some 18's or 22's

Or just run a set of bullet mufflers as resonators after the first set. That is what I did (after the rear axle - like they used to run with the Hemi). I ran magnaflow bullets, others have run others. I did it because I didn't want to wake all the neighbors at 6 or 7 am.

Doug's 3" guillotine are what I have and they are GREAT! Self cleaning too!

i just took off my flowmasters 44s they were a little too loud an drone....replaced with magnaflows and they are awesome. not loud at all on start up an i can get out of neighborhood without waking people, but give it hell an it sounds awesome.

I have 2.5" flowmaster 40's with Hedman Headers and never have any problem, I also have the electric exhaust bypass solenoids and drive with those open alot with no issue. I think old muscle cars get a pass except in California

Hey Hyrdgoon, I bought a set of Jegs cut outs for my little bit pumped up 440. They were butterfly type. I really liked the setup but No matter what I did they would not remain completely closed and you know what that meant. Sounded like I had exhaust leaks. I think Dougs would be a much better setup in regard to complete closing. Just my .02 cents

I have the dmh coutouts on my charger and love them so far, no exhaust leak sound, work good... also to comment on the 14" magnaflows from the start of this thread, I really like them! they are loud but not obnoxious and have a really good tone to them. I would deffinatly reccomend

Great looking build, i think you will be fine. I dont think the cops care so much about a cool hot rod as they do a civic or a modern car making noise. Ive been pulled over for doing burn outs in my old truck and the cops were more interested in talking about the truck than why I was doing burn outs. Either way I plan on running straight pipes after my turbos on my roadrunner.

TTI's followed by QTP's followed by Dynomax Superturbos. Neighbor friendly BB sound. Quick Time Performance cutouts reliable for ten years no maintenance. Used often and live a hard life.
