Tallhair's Convert - attempt to get going on this mechanical refurb so I can drive it

That's what I'm talking about!!!! Tallhair is at it, that's great to hear your getting the ball rolling and from the looks of it you've got allot of parts on hand already. I envy your position, having something so nice to start with..... it's great being able to do a little here and there instead of having to do a full resto right off the bat. Good luck bud

Cheers man. I'm at it for sure and yes it's pretty nice car already by my standards anyway. It's what I'd call a patina car .. not a full on resto project .. not a show car. It's kind of in between but I'm cool with it. Pretty much in my wheel house :)

It really is a fabulous car - a jewel really. In my humble opinion, absolutely worth the work.

I'll come down when it's done and you can give me a ride in it and I will be glad to give you my unprofessional opinion for free... :toothy10:

I'll take you up on that. I'm just really sorry it didn't work out for us to meet up as I'd loved to have seen your car as well. Thanks for sharing the journey along the way in your project thread and the journey made from coast to coast afterward. Top notch in every way IMHO in both respects.

So, what all needs to be done to the old girl? Just trying to get her on the road, or looking for something more?

Well I could answer that in a few ways, but what I intend to do it up thread in comment #26 although obviously not all of that has to be done. Really it could have been on the road with minimal effort I'd say but my desire has always been to kind of make this the test mule I read about years ago in an old Mopar Mag that had Ebooger (I think) doing stuff with a 67 Coronet. I've wanted to do the things they did plus things that have come along in my mind or in reading about other changes since those articles and updates.

I'm going to do most but probably not all from my earlier post #27 to this car as the intention is daily driver for most of the year or at least capable of being a daily driver ... like all my mopars used to be :)

Glad to hear you're moving forward with the semi resto Bryan. 'Verts are just different enough to be a pain, but you already know that it's worth it in the end and I'm sure you'll do a bang up job.

PS - check with Bob at GlenRay for the radiator brackets.

Yeah I've been around them enough to know they are a bit differnt and cost the extra expense, not to mention the whole early / late 68, then the 68 is diff than 69/70 in other things too ... but I just love the 68's and round side markers, first year styling, and the fact that the lid comes off at will LOL.

Nothing like driving a good looking Hot Rod Dodge with a retracting top IMHO.

Oh and yeah for whatever reason I love the 22" Rads from theses cars ... always loved the rounded tops so I eventualy will be working with GlenRay I imagine unless I can find a way to get very nice results visually for less $$. I think I may have an old rad with the right straps to use and if not will def call Bob.

Ah, don't know how I missed that post. When I was getting mine on the road, I split my list into two parts: 1) Necessary to put it on the road, 2) bonus

For me, I would go through that list very carefully, like an ultralight backpacker - take only what is necessary. For instance, obviously fuel system, front end and brakes are necessary, but is welding up the k-frame? Sure it is nice since the motor is out. As far as the stroker, well I think you know where that'll get you. If your motor ran and didn't blow smoke, heck, even if you need to redo the rear main seal, I'd clean her up, reseal her and toss her in. Any interior work can be done while she's drivable. The sixpack setup is awesome, but if it isn't complete or if it's a pain to setup, maybe it can wait and in the meantime you can toss in the torker and a known good 650/750 carb. Then after driving it a while, you can toss in the 6-pack, refresh the interior, etc.

The sooner you turn this into a 'driving project', IMHO, the sooner all of those reasons you posted it forsale / trade fall away.

Just my $0.02!

Hey Bryan !!!!!!!!!

Sorry I haven't posted sooner.............. but I've been busy getting stuff ready for the Garlit's show.

Man you have a sweet car bud !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with HT413

Get it back on the road man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do what is necessary to make it drivable and above all SAFE . Don't forget the brakes and replace the freeze plugs while you have the engine out for the reseal.

I'm glad you decided to keep it. I only owned one drop top before and I still miss it big time. It was a 1970 300 Chrysler. It had a 440 "TNT" and was E-5 Red with black interior and a white top. (sounds a LOT like your color combo doesn't it????)

You would be kicking yourself in the "Arse" if you sold it..................... Just like I'm still kicking my own for selling my convert...................

Your kids will love it too. Mine did.

My 2 cents.

I have the twin to your car in the hardtop version!! Love the combo and would love to have a vert to sit along side of it. Maybe you would rather have a 68 charger to work on and send that vert my way!!

Thanks Dude, I have done that actually. I have some stuff I will definately do ... i.e. the mechanical resto and some other stuff that's not required to get it back on the road the way I want it i.e. a 5 speed manual trans.

It's apart and I'll do the front suspension, fuel, oil, cooling, and brakes, steering, and other parts I've already bought. I want it back on the road but not at the expense of not doing these things and that almost certainly includes the stiffening of the K-frame and LCA's

Thanks man ... I'll always have a soft spot for convertibles and B bodies but I love C bodies too especially the 67-8 Fury's and the other slabs .. but I've also grown an appreciation for Chrysler, Dodge - esp Polara's, and Plymouth Fusey's from hanging out at FCBO over the years

Thanks! I'd love to check it out and let the twins sit side by side one day also :)

Looks like a fairly solid & complete car. Good luck with it!

Thanks R.C. I know you are a busy man with your heavy posting resposibilities LOL :) so credit where credit is due ... you have a lot of nice cars and know your stuff so I really appreciate your taking time to compliment and check out my Hot Rod Dodge

Hi Bryan,

I just posted a link to your craigslist ad in a new thread
Just ran over this thread a couple of minutes later.
If you want to: Please delete the other thread.

If you still want to sell it:
Good luck

Carsten

Tallhair . . . love the car and I'm glad to see that you're getting back to working on the project ! ! !

But then again . . . I'm partial to convertibles
