Hello all,

Looking for the Charger knowitalls (even RC) out there. Have you seen this?

Pick it apart! Please!

Because I'm thinking about bidding on it. The only thing I don't like on it is that it's "numbers matching". Opinions are welcome too. Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Andrew

I checked it out a couple days ago and it looks fairly clean. Love the color combination!

Flaws that I can see:
shifter, blue paint on the lower inner portions of the door frame, grille painted black, painted black outside of the lower stainless trim on the tail panel. All of which are really no big deal to address.

There are no real detail pictures showing the door jambs, undercarriage, fender tag, suspension, etc. All of which would make me be very cautious. His numbers matching comment needs clarification.

He does say this...

CAR WAS RESTORED 6-7 YEARS AGO. REPLACED REAR QUARTER PANELS AND FRONT FLOOR SECTION. THE V.O.N NUMBERS ALL MATCH. HAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR FOR CAR DRIVEN ON WEEKENDS AND TO CAR SHOWS. 48 YEAR OLD CAR, SO THERE ARE A FEW BLEMISHES AND A VERY SMALL OIL LEAK.

Personally, I would want to see this car in person before bidding to see what the blemishes are and how well the quarters and floor pans were replaced. When someone tells me that it looks good for a 48 year old car, I have come to expect the worst. But then again, I have high expectations.

Bottom line: if you are in the market for one, it it worth taking a trip to see it in person.

Nice car and very desirable. It's going to be pricy, if you are serious about buying it, then you should go look at it. Cars in photos look much different in person. If I was looking for a car I would be on my way right now. That is one of my favorite cars in one of my favorite colors, the 440 and 4 speed is just icing on the cake.

It looks very nice. The only number matching item is probably the engine - the A833 and pumpkin may not be. If you are serious go check the car out first hand, or get a member here to do so. Use this primer. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,52323.msg574221.html#msg574221

The Hurst shifter is not standard - the Inland was for a Nov '67 build. Lots of details to look at if an original Charger is desired. But it does look nice....

I have never bought a car without seeing it in person, and I wouldn't want to start doing that with this car. Unfortunately it looks like the auction ends relatively soon and I've got work plus weekend plans. And I'm not one to rush car buying decisions anyway. I'd rather let one go by and wait for the next rather than make a snap (and possibly under-informed) decision. So this may get away.

But yeah, I like the shifter and the other small problems don't seem like much. I was just wondering if I was missing anything. I'd also like to see underneath it and what quality the restoration work was.

I'm also curious what "numbers matching means". That is just gonna be correctly dated parts, right?

I have a feeling this one is going to sell for more than it should.

Number matching usually refers to the engine and transmission. There should be agreement between those stampings and the VIN number. For a '68 the body stampings (radiator support and trunk lip) should match the S.O. number on the fender tag, and unless you have the build sheet it is impossible to get agreement between the VIN plate and fender tag. That document ties the two together.

On my 68 the fender tag and the VIN shared at least the end of the VIN... and I had no build sheet. I'm aware that numbers matching refers to the engine and transmission... but where on the transmission are you going to find anything related to the VIN? And the engine? Aren't the engine and trans going to be date correct?.. i.e. not specifically made for that specific car?

Also RC.. isn't the fuel filler neck not supposed to be painted? I can't believe you missed that.... :p

What I see, 047 radiator gone, prestolite dual point replaced. Intake changed carter avs 4428s replaced along with valve covers. A rally wheel painted black used for a spare and if I am not mistaken the stripe code is missing from his fender tag decode. I agree will be sold for more than it is worth. Another thing that bothers me is is 0 feedback rating. 3 purchases over 12 month ago and 0 feedback.

You're right. I missed that. Now, when I see something shoddy like that, along with other telltale details, it just tells me that great care was not taken. I'd be willing to bet that more detailed pictures would show similar shoddy work.

It's now $44,350.00 and the reserve hasn't been hit yet. No way in hell would I bid that kind of coin without seeing it in person.

Hell no! Chargers (and all B-bodies) ride much better and they don't have a glove box placed where the trunk should be.
I was referring to there popularity and skyrocketing prices. Cudas became more of a status symbol for the rich and famous. The glove box comment did make me laugh, (it's funny because it's true). Of all the cool things about a B body, my kids are most impressed by the size of the trunk.

I know you were; I just had to take it a step further in my own way.

Exactly why I got rid of my Challenger. No where to put the groceries.
Seriously.

Someone mentioned the radiator. I thought the return was supposed to be on the other side. Right?
