Took advantage of the nice weather to get it sealed up for back fill, this has got to be one of the best parts of a construction job........ Finally filling in the mess!!! This is a product made 15 minutes from me and is a 60 mill peal and seal membrane, good stuff.

Then the dimple drain sheeting that's just nailed on with a 22 caliber concrete gun.

Lowes had a sale on fiberglass insulation so I loaded up on everything I needed.

The local truss company wouldn't even consider building a trussed beam to support the second floor so my brother and I threw this together last night, it ain't going anywhere!!! Glued, screwed then a thousand nails.

Finished the pillar and poured the core full of concrete with 1/2 rebar.

Thanks Hawk! I feel for you guys that live in areas like that, has to be aggravating. I don't know if it's because we're in the country but we just start digging and building without making a single call. I can understand codes for close quarter neighborhoods where a poorly built house could damage a neighbors property but if your in the country you should be free to do as you see fit.

And the beam is up!!! When I got home today my dad and brother were sitting there at the garage, dad asked what we were doing today "sure would love to get that beam up"..... Between me and my brother we were easily able to walk it up the scaffolding and get it set in place while dad used leverage from below to keep it stable. Now I can build the short beam to finish it off by myself and start setting joists and laying the floor.

My brother has become a big help now that he's off 12hr shifts and is literally a walk threw the woods in my back yard away.

That's actually my dad's house (where I grew up) across the valley in the first pic so he's very close as well, if he so much as see's a light or hears a hammer he's here to help in minutes lol.

Spent my hours after work this week (couple hours here and there) taking advantage of ridiculouly nice Nov weather putting in the water line and piping for the 200 amp service. With that done my dad can fart around on the Steiner backfilling while I'm at work getting the ground ready to work off of come time to put siding up.

This weekend we should have the second floor installed and get the purlins on the walls. Once the floor is down I can easily stud the upstairs by myself and be ready for trusses next week.

Looks like I'm going to beat old man Winter!!!

The race is on! When I built my first shop, I was hammering a few shingles every night after work until I couldn't see my fingers holding the nail, well into November to beat the snow lol.

I know the feeling, this will make my 3rd one and all done on spare time. Our second one was a small woodshop to move the sawdust mess out of the garage, it will be getting added onto next Spring already. As much work as it is I can still say I really enjoy building them, something about building a project from the ground up I guess.

Next one will likely be a Ford, no I haven't turned but after this garage I'll be broke and want a project so I'll build what I have. 1975 Torino, got some cool ideas and already have everything including a 460. Dropped, tubbed, lightened extensively, possibly blown, tucked bumpers, wicked threw the body side exit exhaust, recessed grill, completely reworked rear, etc, etc. These cars have some sexy lines and can look awesome, the implement of the crash standard bumpers really hurt these cars in the looks department but easily enough fixed. Please don't hate me..... still got my eye out for a 1969 F100 too.

Been an irritating week with the time change, went from having a couple hours of daylight after work to an hour which is killing me. I decided to take this Monday off to get the framing done and ready for siding since I can't find the time anymore. Sat my brother in law and cousin helped finish off the deck then my brother and I knocked out the second story walls today, tomorrow will be the trusses. I'm crapping my britches even thinking about getting up there. Go figure I reinjured my calf today!!!!! Sucks getting old, took off on a full sprint and felt like somebody shot me in the leg so that's not going to help tomorrow.

Here's my view from upstairs, I'm thinking sniper shots come gun season while drinking hot chocolate haha.

This is the best I could do for a pic, it was dark when we stopped. Side by side garage door needs a bit more framing upstairs but it's pretty well licked.

Guess what arrived????? Couldn't resist at least setting it up and will say it's beefy. As promised it's American made and looks to be very well built. Damn trucking company scuffed it all up and broke the reservoir tank!!!! I'll make sure they pay for the damage and some paint too.
