Relatives visiting over the holidays have accused me of being a " prepper". I don't see it that way. I admit I have enough food for a year, not the MRE stuff, but normal food. I have a generator big enough to run basics for the house, and enough fuel for maybe a year. I also have enough weaponry, and knowhow for prolonged existence ( gardening, butchering, etc). I say I'm just smart and have planned well. In other words a pretty normal redneck. What do you think?

I wouldn't be making airs about it in the neighborhood in case SHTF if I were you. Try to minimize
and blend in any prep type stuff.

Sounds normal to me. Of course I'm in Arkansas - outside of Little Rock everyone practices at least a degree of survivor mentality. Are your relatives from one of the coastal big cities?

You are at least a year short on your supply's to be considered a prep per.

A genuine prepper doesn't let his secrets out of the bag, now I know where I'm going when I run out of stuff.....

You are a novice prepper.....as am I. I plan on urban-safaris for things I need.

When you live in rural parts you have to be prepared . Extra food, generator and firearms are necessary. Were i live everything is within walking distance and i have a small generator to run some appliances or i could wire it to run furnace. Not thats not being anything but well prepared and smart

I do live in a rural area, and just a select few have any clue of my semi-prepper tendencies. If the SHTF, you're all welcome. Just be drivin an old Mopar, I can see ya coming for quite a ways.
Hehe
And yes, most of my relatives are coastal dwellers nowadays, but have a feeling they too would be headed this way. Could always teach em how to trap n skin a muskrat.
Lol

When I grew up on the farm that was just normal. If God forbid something would happen I wonder how many of your relatives will come knocking?

People have become stupid, lazy, and dependent upon someone to take care of them....."easy to control".

I like your plan, I also am somewhat prepared and like you I would try to make room for as many friends and relatives (who are willing to work) on my homestead.

At 65 years of age and living too close to a big city, long term prepping won't do much good for me imo. It doesn't matter how many guns I have if you can only shoot two or three at a time. You will eventually have to reload unless you have a LOT of spare hands on deck to help protect your place. I do prep for hurricanes, bad weather etc but there's not much room for a years worth of food and with the ethanol laced fuel we have, I doubt it would last 6 months let alone a year. I barely trust it to last more than 3 months even with double dosing it with fuel stabilizer.....

I agree Cranky, unforeseen weather or such but if a total melt down occurs there are probably going to be way to many desperate and very bad folks running around to deal with....but I will go down fighting.:usflag:

I'm not a naysayer, nor any apocalypse doomsday nut. I work for an electric utility and have seen prolonged power outages up close. Upstate NY- 98 Ice storm, Katrina, Lots of hurricanes, etc. It's not fun and people get real ugly in a short time. If something like that were to happen, I could sit back for a while and let it all happen without worrying.
Fuel storage is relegated to ethanol free gas and propane- no long term issues there.
Folks with farms are probably even better prepared than I am.
