1979 Chrysler 300 Registry

There used to be a white 300 in my neighborhood. It wasn't in great shape; tront bumper was crooked, the owner had put a small hood scoop on, a small variety of rust spots in the usual areas (top of the fender wells, rear corners of the doors). Spoke to him when he saw me driving my 1981 Mirada, and came over. Said it was factory original, even had the original paint (white), and he had owned it from new. Since we are in Calgary, there is at least one Canadian 300 that was not painted red from the factory. and I would think the majority of Canadian 300s are white. I have only seen 1-2 300s, even in pictures.

I did ask about buying it; said he wanted $20K for it. I said that was way out of line with the value of the car. He said that he would keep it until somebody came up with the cash for his price, or sit on it until it went up to $50K. Up to him, but I think his expectations are way out.

Most Canadian 300s were built with an appearance package (no performance parts) not to say all Canadian 300s are but most....

I am no expert on 1979 300s, so I couldn't tell the difference between an appearance package only, or one that had all of the hi-perf goodies, so couldn't say either way. I can say that the car did have a red leather interior (driver's side seat would best be described as shredded, passenger side was just cracked in many places), T-Tops, and it did have the 360-4BBL. I didn't check to see if it was the high perf 360, so it could have been a 300 appearance package with a 360-4BBL.

I'm assuming your VIN is SS22G9R193281, the "G" decodes as a 360 2bbl engine making it an appearance optioned car....I will add it to the list!

Here is the updated registry for 1979 Chrysler 300s, it's on excel format for now to make it easy for me to add numbers and information and move things around. I will make it pretty at some point LOL! VIN #SS22G9R193281, was added after I printed the list to post here so there are 120 VINs listed!

OK I finally got around to looking at the list I started years ago. I have about 50 on it including the Red one in Canada. That's the only double. I did scrap one but I saved the fender tags. I also got a bunch of parts including the entire dash from one that got used in the Derby. It still has the vin on it. I'll send the list to you in a PM. Most of the cars were seen on E-Bay other on Hemming and other on a variety of other For Sale places. Can't tell if all are still on the road but some most likely are.

I got your message and replied! I find a lot on ebay, craigslist etc as well and a lot on facebook groups too. As much as it sucks, finding VINs that are know to have belonged to 300s that were sent to the crusher or being parted out is helpful in narrowing down just how many are still on the road!

WOW!!! So, with the help of another FBBO member, LS-300, we were able to add 49 more VINs to the registry!!! The list is up to 140 VINs with 40 of those are confirmed crushed, in a salvage yard or being sold for parts. Here is the updated registry!

I was flipping through the "1979 Chrysler 300 Handbook" by Dale Burkhardt and John Veatch this morning and saw the following VIN in some photostats of plates/tags/labels:

SS22L9R166248
Date of manufacture: 12-78

I ran across a set of '79 300 fender tags on eBay earlier today. Interesting color
...not what I was expecting to see.

The VIN looks like: SS22L9R158087

I would assume that one has been salvaged.
