1965 AFX Coronet

Did a little more work on the 65 car . Got all the grill and bumper mounted starting to look like a car again . The hood gave me a fit , it's on but will need more work . The passenger headlight bezel will be restored soon .Just wanted to see everything together . Front plate and plate bezel says Big Green and Mean , Godzilla . Good name for it . Will paint it A shade of tropical green , much brighter green than Lime green . Both fenders will be changed out later , they have a long bow in them that I could not get out . Thanks John

Did a little more work on the car . took measurements and ordered lower and upper hoses for radiator . bottom hose I used a convoluted hose with wire in it . that would help keep the lower hose from being sucked in and restricting water flow . On the upper hose I ordered several pieces from Speedway motors . using metal and silicon hoses I was able to get a good fit . Will work well and looks clean .

I have been working on my 66 barracuda funny car That I sold to a friend in N.C.
but I found and replaced the 6 inch shifter handle on the Hurst push down shifter I have in the car , you would always have to lean forward to shift to first or third . I replaced it with a 8 inch stick with a curve in it to move it back closer to the seat . The new stick works great , no more having to lean forward to shift , just lay your hand down and change gears . First pic is old shifter and handle , second one with it in first gear and last one shifter in in the second gear position . works great .

Any one have suggestions for shops ? Please let me know on good or bad shops in area . Thanks John

OK , still alive and moving around . Got new garage up and starting to move in . Unpacked a piece of art I had bought 22 years ago and had it framed with the intent of hanging it in the shop along with all my metal signs and clock That a friend and I put together a few years back . The painting was called " The Sunday Funnies " and had Arnie Beswick and Grand Spalding afx cars in a wheel stand . It is signed by Arnie and Mr Norm . How ever it is over our bed and not in the shop , and that was not my call . Happy wife happy life . When the shop in filled up with stuff I will start working on the 65 AFX car again . I will post pic's of picture and clock . Garage art . Clock is made from a set of rods that lasted 1 run at 8500 rpm in small block chevy . he took it to a bad machine shop that did terrible work . Back at it soon . John

Ok . Got the new garage sorted out and started to do some small things . Having to finish the garage the 65 sat on my trailer . the tarp leaked and the top was a black rusty mess . I sanded for 2 days and put 3 coats of etching primer on it . Starting on the rear right side sanding and coating with primer . Ordered a 30 inch block sander to do the lower quarters , to get them smooth . Did a little inside work , covering hard board with foam and the gray and black tweed the seat is covered in . both door panels, the panels over the tubs and the package tray . I am going to use a black headliner with black arm rests with chrome bases . Headliner goes in before the windows .. right now it's 90 and very humid .....

Well I ordered more parts that will be needed, knowing that it will be driven when the weather is cold, I picked up a Vintage Air heater and defroster comb All the old stuff was thrown away years ago. I also ordered a new oil pan that was 5.5 inches deep, the one I have was for a 4x4 deep sump and was 8 inches deep only about 3 inches of ground clearance, and only lost 1 qt of oil capacity, 8 qt versus 7 qt plus oil filter. It took 6 months to get it from Milodon and am still waiting for pickup and dipstick, on backorder. more parts to come, tried to order a new set of radial pro street tires and my order was canceled twice, due to no stock, talked with Hoosier and they do not know they will make another run of them. First pic is the deep pan and then the new one. It has doors that trap the oil in the back and will keep the pickup in oil.

Still waiting for the oil pickup for the new Milodon pan, ordered a dipstick tube straight from Milodon, took 3 months and they finally shipped last week. Ordered new tires from Jegs 5 months ago, took my money on the order and still tells me next month! Picked up my new fenders from Sledcity Fiberglass in Ohio. When we got back from our trip I had knee surgery which put working on the car off for a while. Last week I started to work on the fenders. Ordered front brakes for it from Wilwood, unpacked and everthing looks great. More from them to come!

Ok , worked on getting the old tires off, it was hard to do by hand but with a little luck and a few choice words they are off. I am working on polishing them and the center caps back to being shiny again before mounting the new tires on. th wheels are 15x18 and look like aluminum commodes.

ALSO POISHING THE CENTER CAPS , WORKING ON INSTALLING THE HEATER AND DEFROSTER UNDER THE DASH. SANDED THE FLOOR TO REMOVE THE RUST AND PUT 3 COATS OF PRINER IN THEM. INSTALLED A POWER CUT OFF SWITCH ON THE SHIFTER HUMP, ALSO WILL PUT THE MSD6 UNIT ON IT, THIS WAY IT WILL BE AWAY FROM THE HEAT UNDER THE HOOD .

Got the tires mounted and seated, Guys at Mavis tire made it look simple. Also ordered a new dana 60 with axles from Mosier and it looks great, called a couple of Shops to get it set up and was told $900.00 to do the job. WOW last one for me was in AZ about 4 years ago $350.00, Atlanta shops will not get my business ! Will haul it to my friend George in N.C. and get him to do it for me. Tires are 33x21.5x15 tread width 17 inches and 22 inches wide side wall to side wall on a 15x18 wide wheel

Started to work inside first, I know that is not the best way to do it but it's cold here to paint. Put the heater and defroster in place, put the fuse panel in place, covered up the floor with kilmat sound and heat killer. It's hard work for a old man but if has to be done. Took the dash apart and started to polish the pieces Carolina Custom made for me years ago. Will start sanding the dash for primer soon.
