Hello everyone, my 68 Charger should be painted in a few months and looking into locations to mount relays for the headlights, horn and fans. I originally bought new stock wiring harnesses but decided to go with American Autowire as I'm also adding Classic Air, power windows and stereo. I wondered where everyone is placing these, would like to keep things as neat and clean as possible. Under the battery tray? I'm not sure how much room is available under there. Thanks! Matt

You could easily hide a dozen relays under the battery tray....

My headlight relays are in the grill cavity under the drivers headlights...

I wasn't sure with the vacuum canister under there, I'll have to get to the shop and mock it up and take a look. Have any pics of your install? Thanks!

I haven't owned a Charger in 40 years, forgot about that vacuum can... Okay maybe a dozen is a stretch... but 3-4 should still be pretty easy...

My current vehicle is a 70 Challenger, the relays can't be seen till you remove a few things, like the lower valance & bumper...

My 68 Coronet doesn't have wiring yet...

Awesome! Yeah I'll just have to take some measurements and see what I can come up with.

We are using the EATON Bussman Series 15305 Fuse/Relay Block (5 relays with 5 30-Amp fuses, and an additional 5 fuse locations.)
https://peerlesselectronics.com//files/15305-2-6-4.pdf
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FWILL20/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If building the box from scratch, it takes "TANGLESS" Metri-Pack 280 Female Terminals. The "Tangless" terminals are a bit different than the regular Metri-Pack 280 terminals in how they lock into the fuse block.

Battery is re-located to trunk, so box is mounted about where the battery tray would have been.
I haven't tried the relays with the built in fuse holder, so I don't know how good they are, but would make wiring easier than having individual fuses to wire to the relays.

Pretty slick, thanks!!

On my 70 dart the relays are hidden under the battery tray, on my 68 coronet I mounted them on a aluminum plate on the front side of the radiator support at the bottom.

Pretty slick, thanks!!

Forgot to mention, We used the version like the one in the Amazon link which has two busses, one for the fuses and one for one side of the relay coils.
I modified the relay coil side bus, cut the bus so the upper two relay bus part is grounded, and the lower three relays on the bus are powered.
This allows the upper two relays to trigger on +12v for the headlights, The lower 3 are ground triggered for Fan 1, Fan 2, and Horns.
One of the extra fused outlets is being used for an under hood light.

So the fans are coming off temp senders and the horn switch is to ground? I haven't looked at the wiring diagram yet to refresh my memory. I took my car apart about 15 years ago lol

Car has Sniper EFI. The EFI monitors the temperature and controls the fans, A/C clutch (no A/C yet.) The horn switch wire connects to ground at the steering wheel. That is why the horns have the relay next to them, but we just used the relay in the relay box and removed the relay mounted near the horns.

Take a look at the MSD solid state relay. I'm using those solid state relay blocks on the cars I'm working on now.

The Solid state relays are more expensive, but should not be affected by High G-Force vibration like tire shake.
The regular type relays are less expensive. Here is a link to the Picker 35 Amp relay specifications used in the Bussman Box:

A bit off topic, but has anyone pulled apart a circular LED rocker switch and reversed the LED polarity? I want to illuminate the LED when switching to Ground, not to +12v. If the switch(s) can not be modified, I may use them to trigger more relays to reverse the polarity action....

Here is mine, mounted to passenger side kick panel with wing nuts. Nitrous, trans brake,, cooler, gear vendors ect
