Hi guys , last few days my hemi start to die off in idle after a few minutes running in idle ... after I drive it on the road and each stop on a read light or somewhere were you go off the Pedal the engine like to die off. First I think something with the ignition wrong maybe the coil like to die , or to much fuel flooting my carb’s... if I on the road on gas its run fine but anyway I must go from the pedal for a stop or slow down the engine will start to try to die off , and I must play in the break time with the gas pedal to keep the engine running ..
yesterday I change the coil just to see it’s the reason of the problems, but don’t . The problem still there !
Check all the spark plug wires to , all be fine !
After I see one of my two 1407 edelbrock carburetor are leaking fuel out !
And also it’s feels like when I try the keep the engine running in idling it’s not run on all 8 Zylinders.
And I see also some smoke came out of the exhaust , after the engine dying in idle the exhaust still smokes also some minutes after the engine are off , unburned fuel ?

What you’re suggestions ? Just a needle and seats problem that’s flooting my carb too much and let them die in idle quickly .

i a Little confused , because I see the fuel leaking not on the top of the carburetor , it’s leaking exactly here in this place , and the fuel dropping out there I see when I try to start the engine !

Float stuck in leaking carburetor. Tap on top until it releases.

Ohh really ? Never get this issue before on any mopar I had . Just tap on top with a Plastik Hammer / big screw driver something like this ? Why it cames the fuel out there ?
Thank you so much !
Every day we learn something

what is your fuel pressure? maybe too high, those eddy's only need 5 1/2psi of fuel pressure.

And I mean the problem occurs few days ago from starting let the Hemi just idle after a short warm up drive for some Temperatur and fan adjustment checking ‘s the fuel pressure still fine like years ago

Its common for Carter and Eldebrock carburetors to have a float hang up or stick, especially from extended sitting. It may even be time to clean and put a kit in them. In single 4 bbl. applications it also is very common to run only run on one bank of the engine when this happens.

When the float or needle-and-seat stick open, the fuel doesn't shut off when it should and it over runs the fuel chamber. This causes the engine to flood with gas on the primary side, and fuel forms a lake on top of the secondary throttle blades. . This then runs out the throttle shaft, where your arrow is pointing.

Perfekt , thank you guys !!!
Tonight after check all the ignition parts and cables , boxes etc and few cranking s the Hemi not want start again. Now after you’re replies of course because too much fuel inside float my engine / spark ‘s that he completely floated and not want start it .

Ok, tomorrow first I try to tap On the top , for try to relase the stuck of the float”s , if still leaking when cranking I will remove the top plate of the carburator and will see what happens . thanks again for all you’re help !

Hey guys , the front carb still over floating when I start the engine . Big amount of fuel come out on the driver site we’re the metering rod is located . Any ideas what’s stuck ? Or wrong ? Because I remove the top plate of the carburator and I not found any issue , everything also looks clean. The only thing i regonize was the accelerator pump was a little “ stuck “ and makes also some noise squeak , and I can it to a other one . But still over floating my carb

Also the adjustment from the float balls are 7/16” correct , and if I turn the top plate on the head like the picture and blow in the fuel Inline they close can not blow any air inside , means the needle so are also good and closing. Fine I not understand what’s happen , any suggestion ?

I went with the vitron accelerator pumps, #1467 on my 1407s when they started acting up. Haven't had any trouble since. Nothing to do with flooding though.

Yes 7/16" on the float level

what is the small vacuum line on the front carb going to?

you did pay attention to the weight of the floats, that neither are flooded with fuel!

No , float balls are seal and light , no fuel inside . It’s crazy , I not know what I can checking more now, but if I put everything together again and start cranking the engine the fuel runs out from the carb

Fuel pressure? Mechanical or electric fuel pump? Pressure regulator?
Mechanical pumps have internal regulators. If it is stuck, you might have twenty lbs fuel pressure.
Unlikely however, unless both carbs are flooding. If it's only the front carb, the carb is at fault.

hard to see in your pic. can't see the needle in the back one! is it in there?lmao

Is mechanical high flow pump with Mallory fuel regulator , all be good in idle about 4 psi . Yes only the front carb float the gas out
