Never been an aircraft nut but I do find a radial engine interesting. This last September was a bucket list mission when I rode back to Stockton Field from the Reno Air races in a PV 2D Harpoon flown by my long time friend and 98 YO WWII pilot Pat Patteson. On board this same flight was another WWII vet and Pearl Harbor survivor Don Long. You can look both of those guys up and read their stories.

I have followed the demise of several aviation museums over the years and, as hard as it might be to believe, lots of warbirds meet their end at the scrapper because it's not economically feasible to move them.

"Through 2009, one F-117 had been scrapped; AF Serial No. 79-0784 was scrapped at the Palmdale test facility on 26 April 2008. It was the last F-117 at Palmdale and was scrapped to test an effective method for destroying F-117 airframes"

August 2008, USAF F-117 Stealth Fighter was demilitarized at Palmdale, CA, though subcontract with Lockheed Martin Aerospace (LM Aero). The project entailed sizing of aircraft (in Palmdale) for transportation to the HVF West facility in Tucson, AZ, where shredding and sortation was witnessed by government and LM Aero personnel. Value from recovered primary metals was used to offset costs for labor, equipment, handling, and disposition of classified materials, LLRW, HazMat, and POL.
