My GY8 '71 Road Runner

Not much to report on my bird. I had to move it out of the garage so I could stain and seal the floor. We had a balmy 50 degree day on Wednesday so, I took advantage and powerwashed the bird before moving it back into the garage after the sealer set up.

I knew I had a bad spot here but, didn't think it was this bad:

Is this something I can patch while the car is on the rotisserie or is that not a good idea?

And, you got to love the nasty dark brown mouse poop filled water that came out of the car. Man did this stink!!

If everything is secure and where its supposed to be, i don't know why you cant.. Im not real sure if this place has them, but you may find some caps to put over that, that would make it solid. Check out the site and i hope it helps you some, for the most part it looks pretty good in the upper pictures, to bad about that location..

WOW! Almost 7 years since I've posted anything on my bird :(. I guess this is what happens when life gets in the way! Since my last post, I've finished my garage build, completed an addition on my house (long story, I ended up doing much of the work), my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer (she is cancer free now), I started coaching youth hockey, etc, etc. Anyway, I've started building a chassis jig so that I can begin to replace/repair panels on my car. Please pay no attention to my booger welds. I am using up a bunch of flux-core wire I have.

Making progress, just need to add some bridging to the legs. I ran out of metal.

Glad you are still on the project. Yes, these car restorations are big time projects - keep at it!

I got the bridging finished last night. I had to order a few more pieces of square tubing for mounting my car to the jig. Hopefully I’ll be able to pick them up tomorrow or Friday.

They’re really nice. I like that you can fold them up and there are also slots built in to sides to attach 2x4’s to make a table. They’re very strong too.
i have the same ones, I love em !

are you going back to the GY8? I thought about changing mine when I first got it, but , the longer i have it the more i like the GY8, and you dont see a whole bunch in this color

When I bought it, I was thinking about painting it black or Sassy Grass since it doesn't have the numbers matching engine. Now, I'm definitely going to keep it GY8. It's really sharp looking with the black strobe stripe and Go Wing. And your're right, you don't see many gold mopars out there.

Not a B-Body, but this is my '71 Dart GT GY8 (added the V21 style gloss black hood, scoops & cowl treatment in 2018). Non-HIP cars are growing on me too!

Haaaa! I also like how GY8 looks a little different depending on the lighting.

DartGTDan, that is a very nice car you have there! Is that a Polara in the background?

ct71rr,

Thanks for the compliment. The car in the background is my buddy's '63 Dodge 440 (383, 4-bbl, pushbutton auto, A/C, 3.23:1 sure-grip 8 3/4").

I've never been much of a fan of high impact colors...give me a brown, green any day, but I do love FK5 Burnt orange and A4 silver. ;)

Look forward to your progress on the Bird...nice to see the shop finishd and life starting to settle down enough to have some spare time. :)
