Engine Explosion on United Airlines Flight

United Airlines was the launch customer, they got their first 777 airframe in May, 1995.
Like I said, my wife worked for United Corporate and they had a "launch party" at Newark airport in 2015-2016, she doesn't remember the exact date. It included a tour for all the corporate people, and a fly around, of which she attended both. Sorry that you seem to know more than my wife, who was a corporate manager.

Glad I wasn't on that plane with my Wife sitting next to me. They would have had
to put a tourniquet on my arm to stop the bleeding from the puncture marks!

That date is more likely to have been for the 787, not the 777.

May 1995 for 777 noted by Photon440 is correct. I worked at Boeing :poke:.

LOL ... I'd be yelling "do they need a third in the cockpit " !
you mean fourth, I'd already be in there if they didn't pull over and let me out!!!!! How do you put that thing in park, just asking.....

Engines Turn Or "People Swim."
That plane was bound for heading over big water..

So someone here has heard about ETOPS, do you know what that is? Educational material for those others that want to learn what it is!

From that article, talking about the plane with the engine problem:
The plane joined United’s fleet 26 years ago, as the ninth 777 in the carrier’s fleet (it only joined a bit later because it was being used as a test frame for Boeing).

From Boeing: http://www.boeing.com/history/products/777.page
The 777 program was launched in October 1990 with an order from United Airlines. In June 1995, United flew its first 777 in revenue service.

Perhaps your wife is remembering the 2016 Newark launch party for the new non-stop flights to Athens?
That date is more likely to have been for the 787, not the 777.
2012 was United's 787 introduction.

I showed her the post and she told me that it was the 777. I'm sorry if I was wrong. Like I said before, I am not going to argue with her about it, so again, I apologize if I was wrong.

This gives new meaning to, "kick the tires and light the fires".
