Had this Hon brand 42" by 72" lateral file cabinet given to me.
They couldn't get the drawers to open.
Mechanism that prevents you from opening two at the same time is off and has to be manually disengaged to open even one.
Not an issue for me, but may delve in to see if I can fix it.

Pretty sturdy. Drawer fronts can come off to be used as a basic shelf that slides out.
Also has a slide out work surface, but that's pretty flimsy. Might could reinforce it with wood.

Now all of my air and electric tools and blades, bits, etc have a home, and not just strewn about the floor. Pretty stoked about not tripping over those anymore.

I bought 6 of these from Craigslist here for 100.00. All lock and have them bolted together and also to the wall. Thieves better be strong

I have the exact same one, and another that the top 2 "bins" have dual sliding shelves. When the bottom drawers are closed, that metal drawer above the 3rd drawer from the bottom pulls out to serve as a small workplace... Nice cabinets, I love mine & they were free from work.

Have a couple.of them in the shop now, they are great to have around!

I can pull that "writing surface" out no matter what on mine.

I actually used it to write on last night as all my other horizontal surfaces were full of crap.

That is a constant issue with me, so I guess I'm actually happy that surface is not fit to hammer on. etc.

I'd probably take half a dozen more if they were free/cheap.

There is a used office furniture store local, but they want crazy prices. CRAZY.

I know this stuff is not cheap. but definitely not in my budget to buy retail, used retail, or likely even wholesale.

I have bought a number of these for $20.00 a piece from several of the local Habitat for Humanity Restores in Milwaukee and Madison ...

How long ago was that?

About 3 years ago, our Habitat's started pricing things WAY higher than they had been.
Sometimes retail.
You can still find deals, but not everything is a deal and you have to be careful.
I recently paid $17 for a $35 5 qt jug of Euro spec oil, but the other oils they had were about 3/4 of retail price. They have standard file cabinets priced at $25, but any shelving or storage cabinets they get are usually priced way higher.

Less than a year ago . I bought 16’ x2” thick by 14” wide walnut and cherry for $15.00 a board from there . Most industrial cabinets are almost always $25.00 or less

Wow.

I bet they move, too.

I wish their managers would talk to our managers.

Uhm no .. I don't think that would be a very good idea...All that is going to accomplish is our managers raising the prices here ....I do a fair amount of woodworking and like the prices just fine .

You're probably right.

Sigh.

A good friend gave me 30 of these lockers years ago. They were beat all to hell and bent up, had to take them all apart to straighten everything and paint them. Shelves every 14 inches, some are singles, some are doubles. I gave the guy a half dozen of them fixed up and kept the rest. They make great cabinets, all steel, tight and mouse proof.

I love, love, love old filing cabinets for storage.

Keep an eye out on your local free-cycle/craigslist/FB Market place when they pop up locally, usually for free.
