Hello. I’m brand new to this site. I have an engine question. 25 years ago I purchased a brand new still in the crate 413. Block 2205697 head is 2406516-2. The engine has mechanical tappets. Bore size is 4.19. A very reputable performance engine shop has verified that this is indeed brand new never started. They are in the process of doing a complete tear down, cleaning, installing hardened valve seats, etc. I’m going to have it put on a dyno as well. The engine is red from the factory with no stamp on the block yet. Any ideas on what year, and application for car that this may have been used for?

Here is a pic of the head casting. Looks like a poor cast job. Looks like a dash 2 better in person

They used 413 engines for everything. From Boat engines, industrial, RV campers cars and trucks. Since its never been out of a crate it really depends on what the heads looked like as far as application. Industrial heads had weird cooling tubes. This is a quote from another site.

The 413 cu in (6.8 L) RB was used from 1959 to 1965 in cars. It was also used in medium and heavy trucks including truck-tractors such as the C-1000, up until 1979. It has a bore of 4.1875 inches.

Thanks for the info. What has me scratching my head is the fact that it has solid lifters. That package seemed to be for the Chrysler 300s. This has the smaller 1.6” valves as well. Whatever it is it’s an awesome specimen. I’ll take some more picks and share. Thanks again for everyone who replied

Here is Uncle Tony talking about RV and Truck engines. From 413 to 440. By the way the 516 heads are typical of the era. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think they are closed chamber heads.

Yes they are closed chamber heads

Interesting video thanks. I was hoping to throw this in my 64 imperial when it’s done and bolt it to a 727 push button. Everything seems to be pointing toward a early to mid 1960s engine. It was sold to me as a 1964, but that is hard to verify.

Is there anything stamped into the pad in the front of the engine right behind the water pump housing? There is a flat spot behind it. This picture shows where that information is stamped. I'm pretty sure even though it was a crate engine there should be some kind of build info on that pad.

That casting number was used from 1959 thru 1965 (413 and 426). Is there a stamp pad on the top front of the engine with any numbers or letters on it?

If it is a boat engine could be reverse rotation engine. If it has a distributor with this piece under distributor to keep distributor drive from pushing up on distributor shaft. The piece on left.

No stamp at all.

That's rather odd. But I guess not impossible. Usually it will contain a build date and or info about bearings if they are undersized or oversized etc etc...

Your block was casted on 1-6-1964 But assembly date would be on the pad. That block could have been assembled anytime.

The engine is complete without a fuel pump distributor or carburetor. The intake manifold has the same casting number as my 1964 imperial 413.

Info I found says 2205697 block is 59-65 413, and 64 426 (street wedge obviously, not hemi or maxwedge).
Head casting 2406516, my info shows 64-67 361/383.
What are the casting dates on the heads and block?

It could have been a warranty long block assembly. But I'm not familiar with how those were put out into the world.
