Said to me at the car show...

Best one I recall was about 20 years ago when I owned a 1960 Thunderbird. This car won trophies at all shows it was entered into. The paint was flawless and a red that just popped. A guy pulled up in a rusted, beat to hell, mid 50s Ford, and registered in the original category. I had seen him at other shows and he had never brought a decent vehicle to these shows. Anyway, he made a comment that my 60 Tbird was the most ugly vehicle he had ever seen. He did not make this comment to me, but I overhead from a distance. Had he told me this directly, I would have offered $20 to buy his cars, so I could bring them to the junk yard for scrap. I know there are cars that people out there either love or hate. The 60 Tbird was one of them. The one I had is shown below and is now owned by a man in Alberta CA.

I think it's cool! And, I've been to Slidell, LA. Cool little town when I was there.

My folks were huge T-Bird fans owning two 57’s, 60’s, and a 66. Up until 66, IMO beautiful cars. Well, my mom didn’t like the 61-63’s my dad and I thought were cool. My girlfriend who I would later marry loved that 66 buying a 66 vert.

Had a friend, once, who became a self-appointed expert on cars despite never turning a wrench lecturing me on da **** cars. He liked BMW’s, Mercedes, Bentley’s and Rolls. Having no money, he drove used beemers having 300k on them when he bought them, wore a large Rolls Royce belt buckle, and a frame around the license plate ‘My other car is a Bentley'. Longer story yet, on why I created a lot of distance btw us

On a side note, the Steven King book Misery, that became a movie with James Caan was much darker than the flick. In the book the state cop that was arriving to the house in the Dodge emitted a rumbling growl from the ‘442’ motor. Ahh, okay ya mean 440..

One time I had my Charger out and pulled in for gas. An elderly couple across the pump from me came over and said they liked my car. The husband said he bought a brand new green 1969 Charger and how much his missed that car. They dated in that car, got married in that car, brought their children home from the hospital in that car. Sadly, he did not keep it forever.
After several minutes of talking. They were the sweetest couple ever. I took them for a ride. When we got back to the gas station, they both had tears in their eyes and thanked me for taking the time out of my day to give them the old memories back again.
As I was leaving, he said wait. I have some old Charger parts in the rafters of his garage. If I wanted them I could have them. I followed them home, climbed up in his rafters and it was trim, moldings, tan interior door panels, tan door pads, tan horn pad, tan dash pieces.

Thinking of making a poster, like some do, with all da questions people typically ask:

Make, model, year

Engine – NO it’s not a friggin hemi – wish it was

Don’t ask if it was a police car or taxi like you saw in old movies – they didn’t make those in convertibles

If you think it’s ugly keep it to yourself and your buds and keep enjoying your Toyota

If you’re concerned about it not being all-original – yes this was intentional

Wow, cool story!

I remember being at a local cruise night with my freshly restored 1964 Dodge Polara 500 convertible. A couple of guys were looking it over from stem to stern. The one guy came over to me and said, " This is a very nice restoration. Too bad it's such an ugly car.".

I always thought the 64 Dodges were really good looking cars... I understand peoples tastes may differ, doesn't change the fact the guy is an Asshole....

This is what drives me nuts and make me stay away from most car shows. First, that lick knob has no sense of style. Second, he has no sense of common courtesy, manners, or politeness. I just don't understand why some people can't show some common decency and just keep their opinions to themselves and exercise just the tiniest little bit of tact.

Your car is fantastic and beautiful, Dave. But you already knew that!

Not necessarily at car shows because I didn’t take the GTX to many - but at gas stations, parking lots, even people peeking in my garage etc, etc …. Hey, wow that’s a really sweet GTO….. And countless people never heard of a Plymouth. The first few hundred times it was funny but I had long since given up explaining…… What they don’t know won’t hurt them….
I like it when they walk up to the window with me in the car - literally standing right in front of the giant
G T X letters on the quarter panel and say "cool Road Runner, man!"

I honestly do enjoy the interactions with folks, no matter their level of knowledge.
All part of being a good steward - and oftentimes, great sources of amusement.

Well that is a nice Ford Fairlane GTX you have.......

Just let it roll off. Tell them you traded the old horse and buggy in for the car. LOL. Think most young people never have really seen our car. The first time they want to know what it is and who made them. No, it is not a chevy or ford.

Can't wait to take this to it's first show.
Not many are aware that Plymouth made
a pickup.
I've had a few people out for a walk in the
neighborhood, come up and ask what it is.
Though it's not real pretty yet, they'll spend
a lot of time (with many questions) in the
garage.

Your truck may look a little rough initially but it is off the hook due to all the cool work you've done to it....

Thanks, 1 Wild R/T.
It's been a challenge for sure.
I can finally get this truck buttoned up,
mechanically. I found the door parts
I was looking for. Glass and rubber will be
the last items purchased before getting it
registered.
The people that irk me a little are those that
walk up and say "nice ratrod".

Funny, it seemed to me that there were more events still happening up in the hills during the Plandemic than here in the valley... I took four trips up to Copperopolis, three trips to Groveland, two trips to Jamestown & one trip each up to Angels Camp/Columbia & Murphys.. The hills were alive... While the valley closed it's doors.... Hill people ain't scared....
Exactly :thankyou:

the only place really "compliant" is the hospital (still is)
pretty much everywhere else was/is normal

Yup.. We were bringing groups up to the hills through out the worst times when the news was saying cops would pull you over just for taking non-essential trips... We would be out in groups of 4-10 cars... Sorry this is still America at least for a little longer.. Can't believe how many sheeple just accept having their freedom taken away... I didn't take an oath to defend this country to see a bunch of pussy's give up all that our forefathers fought for without anything resembling a fight...
