572 World Aluminum close to Dyno

Tough break on the tail shaft housing and yep, that’s the second one. Some limiters will fix that up. Overall it sure was a good weekend though, excellent weather and all. See you next year Wooks!

Always good to read about your experiences with Barney!! Your racing season is WAY too SHORT!
Since you posted about transmission parts breaking, I'll just note my Passon 855 5 speed is built strong, 700 continuous ft lbs torque rated conservatively I've been assured several times, but I too have breakage concerns. I have my tricked out 18 spline 833 for "backup", ready to go, but the "tricks" don't have any specially strengthened gears or hard-driven parts, and if I keep my 4.10 gears in the Dana 60, a 1:1 top gear isn't a long term solution. I've already decided that IF the 855 breaks in a manner that will repeat itself and break again, I will immediately look for a different solution, G-Force or Jericho, or another alternative manual OD 5 or 6 speed transmission that is made to handle what I expect to deliver, around 700 ft lbs torque and possibly as much horsepower, and I plan on a 300HP shot on top of that eventually.
I avoided the chance of my wife wanting to drive or race my Roadrunner by getting her a really nice and performance based 65 Pontiac GTO, but I get to race and drive it, "for testing and tuning" purposes of course, lol. I admire and respect you for you letting your wife kick the go pedal in Barney, you are definitely a better husband than I in at least that regard.
I'm sorry for the long "about my Roadrunner" comments, but I am looking forward to more posts about Barney. BEST of success to you buddy!!

The joy of racing. I will get some limiters installed on the transmission this winter and be back in the saddle next year.

It doesn't affect my Roadrunner, but would anyone give me an idea of what "limiters" are??

If you don't know what limiters are, then how could you know if they'll affect your car?

Limiters limit fore/aft movement when using a motor plate. Motor plates don't have great fore aft strength. The trans mount alone can stress the tail shaft housing. Mine has struts from the trans crossmember to the trans case. A strut from the boss on the lower front right side of the block to the K frame works well also. The boss on my block had been removed. Mine has used the same housing since 2013, 850 passes.

I have a manual transmission...
...and now a GREAT reply post!!

:thankyou:Thanks @dvw and to the OP Wookie for allowing me to have a ZigZag in this thread!

:luvplace:

I guess manual transmissions can also benefit from a "limiter" setup as well? More or Less than an auto? or is it all about the motor plate vs mounts, and manual transmissions should use limiters for similar reasons??
Those are great pix Doug
I think the company that took the Schumacher business and unique Mopar products they made have or will have the strut style "turnbuckle" to limit the roll of the motor when motor mounts are used, and I want to use my Mity Mounts for the 572 if they'll hold it. I also have a pair of Schumacher motor mounts with their unique design for strength, that is how much I want to use mounts vs a motor plate.

Have the brother in law building limiter brackets and another buddy replacing the tailshaft bushing in the replacement tailshaft housing. Back together in no time!

Couldn't find a truck housing?

Are they thicker?
Yes, they are an HD version. I put one on the polara after cracking it, and have done several others. The only problem is they don't have the mounts for the console shift rod, but that shouldn't affect you. The snap ring cover is on the side instead of the bottom.

Ok. If you hear of one, let me know. Trans is coming out this winter. This is a trash fest so I can hit the track once more this year.

Joints here tomorrow. Will wrap up then. Brackets are overkill, but really appreciate my brother-in-law building them on short notice.
Few things to tidy up, but getting close now.

You bet. I have 1 trans that came out of a truck,, but I see it must have been out of a car originally

Limiter Ross built. Just need to install. Adjust band and linkage, fill trans and check for leaks. Should live again.

Have 3 gears. No leaks, test tomorrow. Only 1/8th. Have it opened up with a taper spacer and a few more degrees of timing. Best 1/8th was 6.26 this year. Anything better I’ll take as a win!
Wedding today or is already be there.
Buddy says traction is real good. So we will see what happens tomorrow.
