Flat maps aren't accurate for judging size. As flat map goes north place like Greenland get larger than they really are.

Yeah, that whole "flat earther" Mercator stuff...oy.
Reality:
Greenland is actually about 836,000 sq. mi.;
the USA by comparison is about 3.7 million sq. mi.

I (and most everyone here) have navigated road trips using "flat" road maps long before GPS existed, those maps were always "normal" and consistent ........why must modern "flat" maps have to be distorted?.......is this just another thing millennials have improved?

It isn't really a modern thing. We learned the difference between Mercator Projection and equal area maps when I was in grade five in the 1960s.

C'mon - I've avoided this thread for all this time because - how complicated could it be? There's seven and that's the end of the story period. But now I see how complicated a bunch of gear heads can actually make something. Kind of looks like taking one simple part off your car and then by
the time you're done your have 40+ parts staring at you with no idea how to put them all back together again.

I also have to say how proud of some of you I am - or at least you're faking of it. Who the hell remembers what they were taught in 4/5th grade? I remember where the school was/is but doesn't get much deeper than that. It seems pretty clear some of you cut and pasted a little piece of Wikipedia and dropped it here for the rest of us to marvel at your genius........

And living in Minnesota, just South of Canuckland I don't remember the subject ever coming up regarding Canadian Provinces, Cities and they had a Prime Minister.....Who the hell even knew that..?
