I have original front and rear bumpers for my 70 Roadrunner which need restored. They will cost a lot more to restore than it would be purchase reproduction style OEM bumpers.

What are the pros and cons to each approach aside from cost.

Bumpers - Front Bumpers

Rear Bumper - 70 Plymouth B-Body

Has anybody else run into this decision and what did you do?

Thanks,
Drew

Question is you car numbers matching BB Investment? If its just a cruiser buy repops. JMO

Nothing wrong with AMD bumpers... at least 6 years ago there wasn't. Same thickness as OE and better chrome than a California plater. Paint the back side aluminum/ Silver with rustoleum and bolt them on.

Makes sense to me. May as well sell my OEM set then, what would they go for?

I am fairly certain that we could get a very high quality plating done for around 800.00US here. Don’t know AMD’s price.
I had reached out to Tri-City Plating in TN. So I would have shipping costs plus was quoted $700-800 per bumper. Total cost to purchase new from AMD is $900 plus a bit for shipping for both the front and rear bumpers.

I bought an amd front bumper for a 67 gtx at Carlisle, after I looked at it that evening I returned it the next day. Weak chrome no depth, the way they terminated the shape was not like original, as the plating ended at the end the chrome almost went to gray color.

I have AMD'S on both Challengers and on the rear of one Charger with no issues or complaints. Fit and finish looks good for the money.

AMS obsolete did both front and rear on my charger.
They are around $600 ( but I dropped off cores at Carlisle they weren't perfect either)

They're perfect now.

AMD bumpers are okay for a driver these days. Chinesium craftsmanship and attention to detail. In short, they suck. Double chrome.
Bite the bullet and have the originals done in true triple chrome if you can afford it. Better description here.
SOLD - 1968-69 Plymouth B Body AMD Bumpers For Sale

For you guys that are saying you had your originals done for under $1,000 each, in true triple chrome, in the last 5 years, I call bullshit.
$1,250 per bumper here, local pickup and drop off and I thought that was a deal but they are perfect. Shop around. Maybe the EPA hasn't shut down all the chrome shops yet in your part of the country. They sure have here.

It all depends on your standards vs checking account.

Your last line is the definitive answer.
I don't know where you are but I can get both ends AMD, for about half what rechroming one would cost here in commiefornia.

I believe it. I'm in Colorado, soon to be the next Commiefornia. Fortunately I found a good chrome shop in good 'ol corn eating Nebraska, 3 hours one way, that took care of me. (for you fellas back east, I know people in this part of the country that will drive an hour one way for a case of beer). Still, took 7 months. When i picked them up he said they are now over a year out. But....they are perfect.

AMD bumpers ? A few cars I know, as well as a close buddy of mine, has them and in NO WAY are they as thick as OEM. Yeah, they look good, the fit is decent but NOT AS GOOD AS OEM - we did a side-by-side comparo.
