Vintage Air sells a product called Easy Clip. Now you can install AC lines where you want and how you want them without having to mock-up and have someone cut and crimp the connectors for you. And, they're reusable and don't leak.

Pretty nice you can make it at home and get it clocked roght and the length correct.

Do they still use the idea where the Hi side is small diameter, low side os large diameter?

My folks bought a new 1979 Honda Accord, they wanted AC. It was not from the factory, it was added on AC at a local place. The hoses were like this with 2 clamps on each connection.

I'm not that worried about the Keystone clips as long as they can seal the joints under pressure, but I do have an issue with the hose. A hose with the same ID, but a smaller OD, means a thinner wall thickness. It might be for flexible (due to a thinner wall thickness), but I can see it cracking and leaking sooner. There is a reason AC hose is thicker, high pressure under operation.

I installed that product but, have yet to charge the system. I will let the forum know next season.

The EZ clip system is a legacy Aeroquip product and has been around for about 25 years. I'm the test lab manager for Danfoss Power Solutions Fluid Conveyance Group and have been involved in the development and testing of this product line since its inception. As far as the robustness of the EZ clip connection, it is as robust and leak proof as a factory crimp connection. It meets the same burst, impulse, moisture ingression, permeation and coupling integrity (leakage at the fitting) requirements as the crimped connection. SAE requires the coupling integrity test for all AC hoses to go through what they call 4 cycles which are alternating hot/cold and hot cycle...which account for 2 cycles...and you do that twice. We qualify the EZ clip fittings with our GH001 hose to 6 total cycles.

To address the robustness of the thin vs thick hose. The GH001 hose used with EZ clip is a veneer style hose with a proprietary veneer layer. You can actually kink the hose and it will not affect the integrity of the hose (although its not recommended practice to kink it), the reinforcement is PVA filament which is 3x higher in tensile strength as the Polyester filament used in the thicker hose...which allows us to make the reinforcement package smaller in diameter. The thicker hose is a barrier layer which uses a much thicker layer of material to resist permeation. It also has a thicker innertube, thicker cover and a thicker reinforcement package. Do not kink the thicker hose as the barrier layer will weaken and develop a leak path. We also manufacture the thicker hose as it is a little lower cost to produce and some customers prefer it (because that's what they have grown up on), but the thinner GH001 hose is actually a premium product with a little better performance that we also supply to a lot of OEM's with crimp fittings.

Ugliness....well I can't argue that it is the prettiest fitting out there, but for the ease of use you can't beat it. We pioneered this style of fitting and there are several out there that have tried to duplicate it....but none have matched it's performance. The barrel crimp fittings aren't the prettiest ones in the world either, and they are extremely sensitive to the crimp location to make them work properly. That GH001 EZ clip cage with the grooves in it will properly locate the clips every time so the end user makes a proper assembly time and time again. We do offer -4,-6,-8,-10, -12 and -16 size GH001 hose with the EZ clip system...the larger sizes being suction side and the smaller sizes being pressure side.

Vintage Air has been our customer for as nearly as long as the EZ clip system has been around. He isn't lying that it "works". It has a proven track record and I'm glad to see someone independently bragging up the product. You could probably source EZ clip fittings and GH001 hose from Aeroquip distributors....but since Vintage Air makes AC their business...they probably stock a more comprehensive variety of fittings for a similar price to the Aeroquip distributors.

I've had the EZ Clip hoses on one of my hot rods for years. They rock. No leaks. Uglier than a fat, crimped rubber hose? I don't know about that. There are some things you can do to the hoses to make them better looking on a show car if you want.

BTW, the only A/C hose that ever leaked on my three cars with Vintage Air, was one of VA's factory crimped hoses.

I'm impressed.
Vintage Air does come up with some great stuff.
It would have been great if the video were edited better and recorded by an operator that didn't zoom and move as much. This was like watching a video shot by someone that just bought a camera. It was hard to watch with the spastic actions.
Record a shot, move and zoom in, record another shot, move and zoom out, record another shot.....

I may look into this style for the next A/C job that I do.
@1 Wild R/T What do you think about this?

I saw that system many years ago at the Del Mar Goodguys show. Jet Hot had a 66/7 Nova there that they were running in the autocross and used that system. One thing they did different on their car was have the fittings and clips blacked out. VA was one of their sponsors on the car. Somewhat recently, Modern Rodding did an article on A/C plumbing and that system was featured. I already figured awhile back to use that on my 65 when its time and same for the wagon. Way cool stuff and cleaner to me.

IIRC he said they never leak. If they do, get another length of hose and reuse the connectors.

Thanks for sharing that.

If you have a link ti a better video @Kern Dog will appreciate it.

Come on, I couldn’t have been the only one that thought the cameraman was a bit spastic.
When you wave the camera around and zoom so much, it is distracting.

I didn't notice it. But they git theirpoint acrossin a fewminutes. "They're car guys not film makers, Jim."

That’s fine.
I seem to have a critical eye for many things that dont bother other people.
Imagine being the guy with a sensitive sense of smell and he lives near a county dump! I wish I could turn my senses off sometimes.

I have a hightened sense of smell. Intense odors trigger a migraine.

You ever watched The Man With X-ray Vision? It plays on a theme you bring up about our 5 senses. Namely, vision. Cool old Sci-fi classic.

I should look that up.
It is weird…. I don’t think that my sense of smell is extraordinary but I sense things the wife misses entirely.
I’ve thought of what “sense” would be the most annoying to deal with if it were greater than average and I’d say that smell would be it. You’d notice odors everywhere. At least with super vision you could close your eyes!

Could this be the movie?
