What type of jack do you guys carry in the trunk?

The floor jack I keep in my Satellite is smaller than I thought, 14" box the jack is a little smaller.

I've found this mid 90s' Wally World clearance ($35) aluminum jack to be a fantastic bargain a couple times now trailering my boat around. A little long @ 20" it does take up a little space. Add a portable impact and a tire change is pretty quick on the interstate shoulder .....

Certainly.

Was this an actual personal event, or a hypothetical?

In a million miles of driving cars on steel belted tires on public roadways I think I’ve experienced one flat tire (actually my wife) and zero tire failures.

Anything can happen. Weighing “anything” against preparation for “anything”, verses the likely hood of “anything” has put me in the place of doing less.

When I started in this hobby over 50 years ago, I carried half of every tool and spare part I had with me at all times. Broke down once and didn’t have what I needed. That day I swore I’d never pack that stuff again, and generally haven’t.

I have a small bag of about 30 hand tools I take to the track or long multi-day out-of-town trips.
I know I just jinxed myself.
I've had at least 3 tire blowouts on cars I have owned. The first, no spare. I was 16 and broke. Had to call for a tow.

I had a blowout on my 62 Belvedere just west of Albuquerque on I40. Had a new spare because I thought ahead. I used the factory bumper jack and replaced the wheel (and tightened the wheel bearings while it was off) and continued on my way to AZ.

I've had more flats than I can remember.

Most were back when rubber was "good".

If there’s no spare tire and the one on the car is trashed, what’s AAA going to do other than have to haul the car?
Uhhmm, correct. You guessed it.
I don't carry a AAA card to have them change a flat tire for me. I carry it for when I need a tow truck.
Free within 100 miles. I don't drive the rods more than 30-40 miles from home. Do the math.

Same here, I’ve had AAA for decades and had to use them a half dozen times or more btw my vehicles and my kids, couple of deer hits, never for a changing a tire. One time my daughter hit a huge pot hole destroying the tire and wheel plus whacked out the alignment. The spare got me to the fix-it shop and used it until I could find a matching wheel at a bone yard.

I have factory jacks in all my vehicles.

My 1974 D200 has its factory jack under the seat. My 1984 Ramcharger has the same type factory jack under hood. I do have a small aluminum body floor jack in the D200, but that's more for junkyard trips.

My 2017 Ram has its factory jack under its seat. My 2017 Challenger T/A and 2021 Challenger Scat Pack both came with out spare tires or jacks. I added an earlier factory Challenger scissors jack and full size spare to each.

Lots of good responses and nice to see all pictures of your solutions!

I have AA.A and Hagerty Roadside insurance what I want is a spare they can change for me. Otherwise I will have to be towed to a tire place nearby and maybe they would have a tire that fits but maybe not. This means a hassle. Also I doubt I could get a matching Micky Thompson tire. I don’t want to leave my car anywhere or in the hands of just anyone. At least having a spare tire handy gives me a choice to get home and get the tire I want where and when I want.

I haven’t purchased a rim or tire yet as that’s not simple as well since I have 235x60’s front AND 275x60’s rear and have shuregrip. So I need same height as rear and has to fit up front. I have another thread on this.

And that spare won’t fit in the spot for it.

This has been address in this thread. If you have different size tires front and rear and have a Suregrip/spool or whatever, your spare needs to be the same size as the rear tires. IF that spare won't fit the front, then you need to carry two spares.....one for the rear and one for the front.
