5 blade to a 7 blade well it help

As far as I know bb mopar gaskets are reversible. So you can't really install them upside-down. Some engines have a front and back way to install them like a Ford FE.
Timing certainly could affect the engine temp. Is this a quick fuel 450cfm on a big block???
Thermostat quality isn't the best these days either. It could be going bad and just a coincidence that the issues showed up at the same time. Probably unlikely so..but we often over think issues. At least I do all the time.Lol :BangHead:
HI,
Mine is a SB. 318 Thermostat is/was new but was a cheap brand. Maybe I should change that to a Stant.. Are the Head gaskets reversible on the Small blocks? I think I looked at them and FIRC they looked the same on both halfs of a gasket. I think I have the old gaskets I'll look

318 gaskets aren't reversible. Here is a image of a felpro.

HI,
Since the cam change I'm having a over warming condition over halfway on the stock gauge It used to run less than half way .. Well going from the 5 blade fan to a 7 blade help in keeping it cooler. Radiator has been cleaned
Shroud is the solution. Factory setting is best. No cars were overheating from the factory back in the days... :steering:

HI, MY BAD......
Lets forget the need for a shroud... I've put 50,000+ miles as a daily driver on the rebuild without a shroud and it never even reached the 1/2 way on the gauge that whole time, until this cam change and head rebuild.. So I must have put the head gaskets on upside down.. Thanks everyone for your input..

That's the point. Now you need ... a shroud gives 3-4 times more air flow.

I didn't go back to read all replies, but boiling in traffic with the temp gauge at the 3/4 mark would lead me to a new 15 to 16 lb. Cap.

HI,
Talked with my Machinist today.. about the over heating..
He said nothing we/he did would have caused the extrema overheating. it might have caused a small amount of heat but not enough to cause it to boil over.. Most likely the cause is the miss placement of the head gaskets or stuck thermostat.. I pull the thermostat and it still overheated bad so that leaves the gaskets.. I'm sure that's the problem. as I don't remember paying attention to the direction I put them on.. Like I said I've put over 55 thousand miles as a daily driver on the rebuild and it never went to 1/2 way on the gauge.
Tho a shield would add some better cooling I think not being able to find one , I'm ok without it..
Thanks again for all the replies and help suggestions.

Well, you never mentioned it was leaking coolant before. Or did you? Does it leak coolant?

Is the water in the radiator flowing?

HI,
I never said it was leaking??? it does not leak any coolant .. and the flow is good/great ... Only time it lost coolant was when it was boiling but only lose a small amount overflow tank caught the majority of it all and as it cooled is was sucked back in..

You are wise to check the components you replaced as the source of the trouble. Yes, a shroud will help, and maybe so will a 7 blade clutch fan, but as you yourself mentioned, it didn’t have or need those before the head and cam change. I would bet dollars that it’s in the recent component change somewhere, although I would not be looking forward to removing the heads. Good luck partner, I think you’re on the right track.

HI,
Thanks.. Yeah the heads are the same stock one's I had on it just had them cleaned and milled .010 and a valve job on them .. the cam was the only new component OH and the springs to match the cam..
Yes me too .. So I'm farming it out to a shop for head gasket removal replacement. the exhaust on the passenger side was a pain (had to remove the head pipe and it didn't want to go back together, couldn't get my hands up there) and I didn't want to go thru that again..
