Jeff at 521 restorations has a whole slug of AMD panels and a new rear bumper coming my way.

Excitement is building.... kind of that 8 yr old boy at christmas time feeling...

Anybody ever use clausen "all u need" polyester surfacing primer?

I've used slick sand (evercoat) before and I loved it. My supplier talked me into the clausen all u need.

It cost more than evercoat slicksand.

They claim you can eliminate epoxy and sealer with it.... what ever... I guess i'm still going to put my epoxy on and seal it all before base coat.

What sold me was the solids level, it sounded like the stuff had even more solids to it than the slicksand. So I guess that's why I chose to buy it.

Just wondering if anybody here has used it before.

I've used the clausen body fillers before and that's what I'm using on this car as well, I've just not tried this "all u need" before.

Great color! will look great with the white.

Used the slick sand in the past and had pretty good luck. Always do with evercoat products.

Let us know how the clausen pans out for you Dave.

Yeah I'll do that, another thing I can report on is the kirker paints.

Very afordable... I guess we'll see.

I went with a 2 stage, the base is similar to the old dupont DBC system.

I asked for there best clear... planning to wet sand and buff.

We'll see how it goes.

I used to really like the Dupont Centauri single stage....Don't even know if they sell it any more..

I've heard pretty good things about the Kirker paints...They've been around a pretty long time. Must be doing something right.

Eager to see how they lay out on the roadrunner for ya..

BTW... You got a name for your bird yet or you sticking with "Hippiebird?" It's only tradition to put a name with a face. Obviously Matt and I have ours along with "Bob" the satellite and anmracing's "Jamie, along with others...

Oh I've called it some names already....

"el polo loco" is one of my favorites I guess, the crazy chicken.

hippie bird is good, i've also made reference to acid trip, LSD etc, all tied to the mural paint job lol!

We'll think of something.

I remember the centari, We painted my very first car in white using single stage centari. it was a 1970 ford torino gt with a 351C.

I miss that stupid car.

The thing with the kirker stuff is even a po-boy like me can afford it.

I've used a bunch of the kirker primers before but this will be my first experiment with there topcoats.

Same with clausen, I am familiar with and really like there body fillers, especially the "gold rush" glaze, but this will be the first time I've sprayed there poly prime.

Dave, laying in the dirt does not look like fun, been there, done that, no more brother! But, knock yourself out!!! Not sure who up there is available to Media Blast for you, but, I recommend taking that moment to think about life as you tear the car all the way down to nothing...then, send it out for the blasting; no amount of sanding and discs will ever get it as clean as getting it blasted. When I strip a car down, I'm thinking the same things like what this car has seen etc as the paint, bondo and rust disappear before my eyes. Here's a pic of something that the sanding disc never could replicate...

I know it, I do.

Right now It's just not in the cards for me though.

No reputable media blaster anywhere close to me, and although all these cars desrve that level of disassembly and stripping, I just have to settle for "the best i can do with what i've got" for now

I helped hang AMD quarters on a 70 bird and it well worth the additional work and cost. They are heavy gauge material and did not need to much extra work to hang them, all marker opening etc lined up. it took us a lot more prep time before we got to glue them on. We hung them with modern 3m panel adhesive and clamped many points all around. After the epoxy dried over night, we welded seams where we felt necessary. Then the real work began with refacing the whole car and the blocking. And more blocking, i will tell you once you start sanding you will see how large our b-bodys really are. Best of luck which ever way you go.

Try doing it on a C Body 4 dr hardtop, man, the qtrs are long, and the trunk is huge, and the doors are also long, extending to the fenders! Can't wait to do mine!

Well I didn't get much done today but I at least got a start.

my bad wheel house.

102_5631.jpg

this was interesting, the matching 1W code from my fender tag was written on the roof under the vinyl.

102_5637.jpg

the rust under the vinyl is thatnkfully not bad, I won't need to patch any.

a little of the original paint under the trunk weatherstripping.

Now we're talking!! Let the fun begin!

That roof is really in great shape under that vinyl!

I was really worried about the roof. I has a small and very pointy blade pocket knife with me when I went to look at the car. I poked at any obvious rust bubbled areas on the vinyl before I bought the car, I didn't find any soft metal spots then and now I feel even better.

I might see my sheet metal from AMD early this week and my other supplies including the sand paper.

I have plenty of disassembly to do yet before I get too wild with the sander though.

One nice thing about replacing quarter skins is that you don't have to sand the old ones lol!!

I would have got a lot more done on the car but I had to fix my plow truck on saturday and my garage is still cluttered with vehicles, broken snowmobiles etc.

I decided to just start tearing it down inside the spray booth.

Well I just got my corny giggle for the day...

I punched in my tracking info for the AMD panels I purchased from Jeff at 521restorations.

I was amused when the shipping company website came up and I saw the name of the company handling my order.

My 1969 roadrunner parts are being delivered by roadrunner transportation services.

How fitting...

lol!!

UPS was here, I got about 9 boxes of supplies.

Sandpaper, primers, fillers, base coat, clear... all kinds of stuff.

Damn, guess I have to get to work now.

Everything went about how I expected tonight except for my rocker area between the back of the door and the wheel well.

I sanded the rest of the old bondo and paint off the top of the quarter on drivers side, it was on there way too thick and it was very poorly done.

102_5654.jpg

I got the can opener out, pealed a quarter skin off.

Nasty.

Advice is certainly welcome.
