Does anyone know what this metal is that's bolted to the bottom of the front bumper on my 1967 Coronet? I don't have one on my 1966. Is it to support a front licence plate...or for improved cooling?

Also, what direction is it supposed to face? It looks like it might be installed backwards.

I doubt it has anything to do with the lic. plate, as an installed plate will not hang down past the bumper. It is obviuosly a stamped piece though (rolled edges with bolt reliefs along that rolled edge). Do the three bolt holes in the bumper 'have chrome plating in them? That may be an indicator as to this being an original item or something added by a previous owner. With it being so short, both width and length, I'm at a loss as to it's function. That area of the bumper is rather stout, so I wouldn't even see it as a structural support. I would agree, that if it does infact belong on the car, that it should face the other way...if nothing else, for cosmetic reasons.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the bolt holes in the bumper have chrome plating in them.

I heard the 1966 Dodge Charger was the first with a rear spoiler. Maybe Dodge was the first to also install an airdam on a car? LOL

FYI... I just checked a 1967 parts manual and it looks like it's a bracket; part #2533478.

I'm not sure on your bracket. I don't recall any of the 3 '67 B bodies I've got having this. As far as the spoiler, if I'm not mistaken, it was a NASCAR "aftermarket" piece.
