My Freshly restored 68 GTX

Looks beautiful, Great job on the interior, really dressed up the trunk with a mat!

Electrical...Not even sure where to start explaining what was wrong.
I do understand its a 45 year old car and I do expect to see electrical issues, such as grounding problems, but most of the things I found make me think it spent a great deal of time in a field.
Here are the things that didn't work;

1. Horns (non existing and no sign of a horn relay).
2. Heater not working.
3. Windshield wipers not working.
4. Windshield washer not working.
5. Center console lights not working.
6. Brake lights and running lights intermittent.
7. Radio (no brainier here).
8. Fender turn signals, I got one socket, two lens, and one bulb in a bag.
I'm sure it was just bad luck but about a week after I picked it up I was driving down the road when smoke started coming from under the dash, the engine died, and the car coasted to a stop. Long story short, the alternator shorted out, burning the charge wire back to the fire wall. It also took out the fusible link and amp gauge. In the process it burned the connectors in the bulk head. I repaired the burned wires and replaced the amp gauge. I had hoped to salvage the bulk head connector but after several tries it was no luck I had to swap out the bulk head connector and the three plugs on the engine compartment side.

If I had a buck for every time i've seen a melted bulkhead connector........

Just glad to see it didn't take the rest of the car with it. Looks like your hands are full, but I guess it's a good opportunity to get that old rotten wiring out of there.

Yes his name is Scott!!.... What do you know about him?

I don't really want to get into it in a public forum, but we ended up buying a car that he had "restored" from a guy that got hosed by him. Pretty much everything on the car needed to be gone through and he was very reluctant to show any pics with details. Guys like him make it hard to guys like me to sell cars! PM me and maybe we can compare notes over the phone. Should be worth a laugh anyway...

I replaced all the harness in my GTX. Even though everything worked, i don't know how. Tons of cut wires and added wires. It was a mess.

Hopefully someone can give me a little insight to this set up? Here is a picture of the end of my horn circuit, it looks like a standard two horn set up. The problem I have is this wire has no breaks between here and the fire wall plug. So where does the horn relay splice in? From what I have researched the horn relay is mounted out by the horns, but this connector is not set up that way. When I press the horn button on the steering wheel I do get a ground to this connector.

There should be a T shaped plug that the green wires for the horn come from.Wire is sorta a pink color in one side of the T plug and the green for the horn out he other. Then there is also another wire that plugs into the single spade on the relay. There will also be the WS washer pump wire there too. They all are sorta together with alternator wires.

I can run out a snap a pic if that would help.

A picture might help, whats shown in my picture is a single green horn wire that is taped in a bundle with the alternator wire and the WS washer wire but thats it.

kind of a crappy pic, but here's mine...

In my box of parts from the seller I received a wiper motor, I thought it would be an easy fix, remove one motor and install another. It didn't take long to figure out the seller gave me a two speed motor to go on a three speed system. Nothing new here just par for the course with his guy. After a little trouble shooting it was obvious the wiring was correct and the motor was not working so I disassembled it to see what was going on. The motor was in a bind and its easy to see why, this is what I found in the motor once I removed the housing. I cleaned it up filed the brushes and it works fine.

This is one of the reasons I think it sat in a field.

That's what I call "motor mice". I open em up and find wasps nests, beetles, spiders, all kinds of stuff. Can't count the times I've been bit by "critters" that don't like having light in their eyes when I open it up LOL

4 wires into the bulkhead connector? 3 speed/variable speed 3 wires= 2 speed

The heater had the same problem as the windshield wiper motor. Once I freed up the fan cage the heater works fine.
My fender blinker indicators didn't work nor all the parts there, I had to find one light socket and wire them up.
Finally all the electrical is working and I have been driving it for a few weeks with no issues.
