440 mopar going to westcoast and back to Indiana possible.

Higher octane does not equal higher mpg. Lower btu's does however equal lower mpg.
VERY WELL PUT !

your engine is going to suck the same amount no matter what .....it could be gasoline....coca-cola....chocolate milk.....jello......mountain dew....or jet fuel.

higher octane does not mean better MPG. i dont know how this farse started.......im gonna tell you what octane does:

octane RESISTS burning....the higher the octane.....the harder it will be to DETONATE....or have PRE - IGNITION. detonation is that rattling sound when your car is severely out of time.....or youre using low octane gas when there is a load on the engine...like climbing a steep hill . i have been arguing this with people for at least 30 years....so dont believe everything ya hear from some gypsy back yard grease monkey!

$4500 for gas. You could buy another Mopar for that. As awesome as it sounds, I'd vote no. Buy another Mopar for under $5K with a 318 in it, drive it across the country and get at least triple the gas mileage and none of the maintenance/issues with driving a souped-up 440.

OK, this car is 6K, but it looks like it's begging to be driven across our great country!

Just my $.02. Have a great trip no matter what you drive. Whoever is telling you to pack a gun, where the hell do you stay on road trips? Under freeway overpasses in East St. Louis?

there's alot of bad people out there no matter where you go across Our Great Land.

i just want to get good olde Dom back to Cyber Sally all in one piece. this isn't the 50's and 60's where everyone greets you with a coke and a smile anymore.

you may have to defend yourself in boo-foo egypt USA...it's hopefully a faraway possibility, but it's STILL a possibility. im not talking bout wearing it on you your hip like freakin Josey Wales or brandishing it like 2pac. {look where it got him}. just a bit of backup is all im saying.

jesus, nothing like blowing what i said out of proportion for a dramatic effect. :laughing1:

BRING GAS MONEY DOM!!!

No. It's impossible. For as long as 440s have been made, nobody has ever driven one across the country.
Gonna have to go back to page one and agree with Rusty on this one ; )

The stoich ratio for E85 is around 9:1 compared to gas at 14:1 so you will use a bunch more. Availability is an issue as well. My 2-4 hemi gets over 11mpg so an na car at 4.5 needs a bunch of tuning or a different rear end gear. Post pics of your blown charger and we'll give you opinions.

there are some pretty good suggestions so far but i'll add, depending on what gear and 3rd member you are running you may consider swapping to a 2.76 for the trip if your are running a 8 3/4 with a stock torque converter.

E85 is a terrible idea. Far far less energy contained in Ethanol, if you get 10 MPG with standard gas, you'll get about 7 MPG on E85. If you get 7 on gasoline we're talking about 4 or 5 MPG on the corn juice, maybe a lot less if it isnt tuned properly. So your 35 gallons will get you anywhere from about 150 to 250 miles max.

Besides, in the middle of nowhere do you really expect to find an E85 pump? I live in NJ and dont remember ever seeing a single one.

i would be more concerned with the wear and tear on the car, every idiot on the road coming the other direction , not to mention the blizzards and hailstorms you will encounter on the way.

It's always a very good idea to be best prepared for any & all scenarios, you will be in some seedy areas crossing the country, it never hurts to be prepared for anything, that you may encounter, along the way... Be prepared for the worst & expect the best, have fun & good luck, it's an adventure of a life time, you will never forget... By the way, E-85 isn't readily available thru-out the US & especially in the south & or west, it's far more a rarity than the norm hear in Calif., It really depends what routes you choose & on what ultimately will be available, there will be areas you "will not find any E-85" & 35 gallons total, wont get you thru all the areas, that there isn't any E-85 &/or any other Ethanol even available, it's thru-out the north east, but not as available as much anywhere else... Food for thought... Have Fun & good luck {by the way any fuel, containing any form of alcohol, your engine will consume 70% more fuel/per volume of alcohol content, that it's equivalent to straight/Pure 100% Gasoline counterpart... E-85 has a higher Octane rating & great anti detonation properties, but it also holds water & condensates/sweats in the fuel tank, especially in radical weather/temperature changes also, there are corrosive properties (especially effecting untreated steel, non-anodized aluminum or real rubber, hoses, o-rings, seals & other parts it's in constant contact with), in any alcohol based fuels too, you need the proper, type fuel lines & fittings & adequate fuel tank ventilation, to help with the condensation/sweating of the fuels, Stabil additive helps also} those are the facts

Il chip in $20 for gas. But I expect some post cards along the way & a couple of good souveniers.

The crack epedimic is over and the rodney king riots were 21 years ago fellas lol.

I guess i could throw a bandana on and take my 1990 caddilac brougham to the westcoast lol.[/QUOTE]

The crack epidemic just ended up being replaced by the meth epidemic and I don't remember anyone getting too worked up about Rodney except in California.

I do believe the E-85 is a bad idea. Talk to anyone who has tried it in their daily driver.
Less cost for far less mileage equals shouldn't have burned that crap. Good luck!

lmao

tpods 440 gets 4.5 MPG

4.5 mpg what are you running?
Also Dominic Torreto What is the engine like?
Is it a new engine, less then 10,000 miles. Is it an old engine over 100,000 miles
Does the car have any problems that you are waiting to they get worse to deal with?
Do you have a spare (no idea what item breaks normally on the 440)
Have you driven the car on a really hot day and flocked the crap out of her without her temp gauge moving?
does the car drink any coolant or oil?
Has the car been driven long distances recently how did it go?
Don't forget to take extra coolant with you and check it sometimes.
With Car boiling at side of road with you sitting there thinking i should of topped up her coolant and stopped to let her cool down BEFORE she over heated is not fun

BRING GAS MONEY DOM!!!

Amen.

First marpar I give you props for bringing up tupac. LOL I give you props for throwing the knowledge down. I listen to that **** lol. As for the E85 thing it is cheaper but you guys really are turning me away from getting tuned carbs for that. As for carrying a firearm that really isnt a bad idea. All seriousness thats the last thing I would want is some sob trying to take my only car and cash leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere especially if it is that much money and a suped up classic charger. So point won there where ever I go. If someone ever tried robbing me they have 2 choices back away or shoot me cause I am not giving up even twenty dollars. As for the whole trip you guys really through down some knowledge I may start small and go to some good places in Kentucky or something or go down to Geargia or Florida and do small runs with the charger.
