Hey FBBO family, I'm looking to rent or borrow a flatbed car trailer from a generous member in order to pick up a car in Ohio and bring it back to Long Island. It should be an 18 hour round trip. I have a squeaky clean driving record, and I can even temporarily add the trailer to my insurance for the trip if it makes you more comfortable. I have experience driving landscape trailers both open and enclosed. I'm trying to be as budget-minded as possible for this haul, considering my fiance and I are getting married this year and purchasing our first home. I'm going to try to sneak building my dream car into the process as well. Why? Because life is too short not to. I appreciate any and all help. Thank you!

Chris

P.S. I don't have trader Feedback on here, but if you search my username on FABO, you'll see I have a great reputation buying/selling.

You do know you can do a 'local' rental of a U-haul car trailer for about $60 per 24hr period. Local rental is when you pickup & drop off at the same place...they don't document (charge) for the number of miles you go. Reserve a trailer a couple days ahead of departure, pick it up on your way out of town, then drop it off the next day around the time you picked it up! Easy peazy.

I have used these in the past (before buying my own). They come equipped with a 'tongue (hydraulic) actuated' brake system that works well, in the event your 'tow rig' does not have an electric brake controller. With 6,000lbs pushing against you while trying to stop short, that braking system makes things much easier.

Unless New York is different than other states, your current insurance on the tow rig should already cover a towed trailer...at least it has worked that way in the multiple states I have lived in. Upside to a long trip with a rental is, should something happen, you just call U-haul and they come out to fix it!...or provide you with a replacement!

Hi everyone, new member here. Own a 69 Dodge Coronet 500. I saw this post and wanted to 2nd what Dako said.
It was just around $60 for me to rent a car hauling trailer from U-Haul and it worked perfect for me. Comes with front tire straps and 4 chassis chains to keep the car on the trailer.

Good luck with the car move.

Yep! Go with U Haul.

Not to sound like a dick, but personally there's no way in heck that I would lend my trailer to someone I didn't know.

I rented mine one way. What I saved in fuel vs drop charge worked for me. $55 a day+$20 drop charge. My truck gets 19mpg no trailer vs 11mpg towing loaded. But it was 2000 mile round trip and we did 1000 return trip in one shot.Got trailer 8am [email protected] home 2am,unload 7am drop@8am=$75

Thanks guys for the info! The problem is I have neither a truck nor a trailer. I planned on renting the truck itself from Uhaul and pulling a borrowed trailer with it. For some reason, I assumed the trailer rental would be equally as expensive as the truck itself. It looks now like the truck itself will be the big ticket item for the haul, with the trailer being an afterthought. I guess I was looking to pinch pennies in any way I could.

Yep and I don't think you allowed to tow any trailer but a U-Haul trailer with their trucks. If I remember correctly

Might want to try Uship.com or see if anyone is interested on moparts or the hamb

Yea maybe Roy from "Shipping Wars" will go get it.Then you'll be on TV LOL!!

Sorry rrowdy, but she's pretty rough, I'd say. Now that Robbie - she could haul a load for me.:tongue5:

When I bought my Belvedere, I towed it home to WI from FL on a Uhaul trailer (one way drop). Worked out just fine.

Well, I officially now have nothing to tow any longer. The car was sold out from under me while the storm delayed me getting the bank check. Can't say I blame him, honestly. He's a very nice guy that did what he had to do I guess. Extremely disappointed. Thanks everyone for the suggestions at any rate.

Hang in there, take your time and something even better will turn up.........

It usually does.

Good luck!
