100 MPH Aint what It used to Be

lol i know the feeling had a 929 honda cbr street bike when i was in my twentys! Got all full of liquid courage one nite and took that bike up to 180 mph and still had throttle to twist but got scared and backed out of it! At that speed the wind is so bad you cant hold your head straight even if your crouched down behind the wanna be windsheild! Just plain dumb as i look at it know but back then i was the man lol !

Man I miss riding. My lil 600RR topped out at 159mph. I had it there several times. If I lifted my head more then an inch or two it would just start dropping 158... 157.. etc til I tucked again.
We took our bikes from Reno to sea level, that was nuts. I was able to stand it on the rear tire in 2nd, set it down and I was doing 110.

I loved my old T/A.. Had a crap ton of money put into it.. It was wicked fast.. LOTS of stories in it.. Always wanted to have all that money dumped into a new challenger..

My ol 70 roadrunner was clocked at 151 mph,...aint tellin the rest. LOL

Have to be careful trusting those japanese (and all other) speedometers. But then again, all speedos have their most accurate range, and it isn't at the lower end, or when topped out. Speedos are calculated to be as accurate as possible in a range where most riding is done.

A stock 929 Honda would not get close to 180 mph. It was and is a very fast motorcycle, and once you are past 150 or so, does it really matter? Best speed runs I have in my records we took back when 929 was new, it went about 165-167(radar gun). We were trying to see if it was any faster than the 900. It was/is, but not by a bunch. Aerodynamics plays a massively larger part of top speed over just horsepower.

Not at all bashing your 929, so please don't take it that way. I used to be involved in the technical side of testing new products as they came out(top speed, horsepower, 1/4 mile, etc). A case in point is my 2006 GSXR1000 that has way more horsepower than a Honda 929. Rear wheel dyno'd at 171 hp after some fairly extensive mods. Tapped out on the 4500 ft front straight at Miller Motorsports in Utah, it ran right at 179 to 181 every lap. That was radar and GPS tracked. 180 on a bike is pretty stupid fast, but it handled it like we were doing 90 mph, not double that.But even with a 30 or more hp advantage or a 929, it only went 10 or 15 mph faster.

Crazy thing was stock geared GSXR1000K6 would do 101 mph in first gear at redline. And you have 5 more gears! So as this post started, yes, 100 is a long ways from where it was when we were younger.

The muscle cars wars of old that many of us wished we could have been a part of were nothing to what is going on now. Ford putting a Line Lock in 2015 Mustangs so you can more easily do a burn out? Really? That is so freaking cool! Chevy selling COPO Camaros that are running 8 second 1/4 miles? WTF?

All I need now is the Plymouth name to come back, a legitimate 'Cuda produced that doesn't weigh 2 tons, and I will burn a hole in my checkbook to buy one. And I don't want a rebadged Challenger. I mean a "Cuda! With a Hemi and blower with a warranty! And maybe In-Violet. Then I could die happy, lol.

No just put a marginal driver in the car in bumper to bumper interstate traffic who doesn't realize how fast 80 MPH is and we can understand why accidents happen.
In a 70s car you know how fast your are moving. Not in the new ones.
E=MC squared.
