Hi:

Just purchased a 1966 Dodge Charger has a Bo Laws built 426 wedge with 440 heads supposed to be pushing 725 horses, 4 speed with 326 posi. Trying to figure out how to take off the trim so I can make it purty and also trying to decide whether or not to leave off the trim after paint. Any thoughts? I am in need of a tail light if any one has one for sale. Any and all comments welcome.

Thanks!!

Hi and welcome aboard!

Welcome from MI. How about some pics of the car.

Welcome! Yes pics are required. LOL

I agree with the others about build it the way you want. Just be aware that if you take off the peak mldgs there will be lots of metal and body work needed on the quarters. Under that trim is where the factory seam is for the quarter panels.

Check out OZKING's website. He has lots of good Charger info. You can view the and down load the '66 Charger Supplement manual it shows clip location and style.

agree with above comments. definitely research the pros and cons vs time and effort you want to expend for the look you want.

lots of great advice & experience here and at the "66-67charger.com" forum.

best of luck with your project!

66 Bo Laws Built Charger

Thank you all for the nice comments and welcome. I will post pics. Hope they show. Just pressure washed the car last night and took off drivers side trim molding. I do believe I will be leaving it off as it is drivers quality and I think it will look better and cleaner off. I plan to cut the rear panel peak "ledge" off with a power cutting tool and then grind it down to be flush with the rear quarter unless someone has a better idea. I am open to any and all suggestions. I have a friend that has a body shop that will professionally paint the car and repair the few body rust issues I have so I am fortunate there, I just need to remove the doors, fenders, hood and deck lid. I will be selling the trim should anyone have a need for it.

that center hood chrome is not stock on the Charger in case you didn't already know

we have a pair of 66 Charger 4spd cars, if ya need help, contact me

Thank you!!!

I know the hood trim is not stock. The guy I purchased it from was 83 and used to take the car to the track. He put a Bo Laws built 426 Max Wedge in the car hence the hood emblem which states "426" probably off a Cornet or something like it. The block does code out to a 426 Max Wedge HP block, and I will pull the valve covers when I get a chance to check out the heads. The original Max Wedge intake was sold for an "ungodly amount of money" by the previous owner. Too bad would love to have had the two 4's on the car. I will probably remove the hood trim as I have already removed the fender to quarter trim and removed the rear quarter piece that's hold the trim on.

I very much appreciate your willingness to help, and I do have a couple of questions at this point:

Instrument panel lights do not work, and the headlight doors do not open, although the headlights do come on. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much.
Mike

Welcome to the site,so tell me how's that charger I was going to go buy it but I had some many projects going on and did want one with that monster motor in it as I like to drive them every day on the street. The tail light is hard to get look up joel on here he's parting two of these out. So where abouts do you live I'm in Melbourne area I'd like to come check it out now that it isn't for sale (that way I'm not tempted to buy it) also diesel dazzle has one two he is around Melbourne fl also anyways good luck with it glad it sold finely. I was getting very antsy. Every time I saw it

I rebuild the power packs for the dash lights, also have new ones available to order. I also have new relay sets for the rotating headlights that are behind the glove box.

I would suggest getting the service manual supplement for the Charger and follow the troubleshooting section on the rotating headlights in there....if ya have issues, shoot me a PM and I can give you my number and can talk you through it easier than typing it all out

welcome Chief ...from the land of orange groves ...well use to be anyway. So contact www.taillightking.com

AJ has almost every tail light you can imagine....he's slow...but all his stuff is good quality. I just bought my LED's and he's 40 cheaper than Summit for the same set up.

Welcome Chief! Great looking Charger and keep us up to date with pictures as you roll through the resto. Good to see another Mopar being brought back to life.

66 Charger

My Charger is actually in Haines City in my shop. Already started deconstruction. Hood, trunk lid, fenders and doors are off of the car, as well as the front to rear quarter trim. New gas tank being installed today as well as new power brake booster and master cylinder. Put another Holley Double Pumper on as the old one leaked like a sieve at the accel pumps"
It really was no big deal to cut off the rear quarter ledge that held the rear quarter trim in place, and I have a welder friend of mine coming over on Wednesday to weld that up as well as to fix some of the rust areas on the car. Not many but it needs to be done, no bondo bucket this!!! I hate that!! Pix are attached of the "deconstruction." So many of you seem to have an interest that I will post pix as I go. Glad to do it.

I am very appreciative of all of the helpful comments, especially to A383WING who sent me the link for the manuals. I am now trying to decide on a paint color, am leaning towards a very bright Red, but have not yet decided. Interior is black so I can paint it Chartreuse if I want too, LOL, as black goes with everything.

Keep the comments coming!!

Regards,
Mike
