Hi, Everyone!
I just purchased a 69 Charger,#s matching 383,Powerglide car.
It is a 'White Hat Special Edition Car'
My question today is... Restomod or original? for the build plan.
Done 'really' well in either form, What will bring more return in resale value?

Not a powerglide[GM}. Your biggest profit margin, would probably be to sell it now. It'll cost 70K to do any car "really-well". Post a few more times, and get into the ad section.

Well! I feel stupid! I named a Gm part on a Dodge forum! OOPS!!!
And sorry! It's not for sale!
With the exception of machine work,I will be doing the entire build myself.
Using 45+ years of experience in the 'high end' auto/motorcycle industry.
One, of many automotive accomplishments'... 1981 to 1993, 'Authorized' Coach Work Repairer, for RollsRoyce/Bently Motorcar Corp. One, of many motorcycle industry accomplishments... 'Best of Show' "Oakland Roadster Show" 98,99,2000
Question! Have you had any experience with the 496" stroker kit for the 383?

I agree with mmissile, you will never get what you put into it so if you bought it to make money on then just make it a driver and sell. Let someone else restore it. But if you like the charger like many do, fix it the way you will enjoy it most. Good luck, nice starting point.

Welcome Wayne!

You can always restore it to original first. Then you can just use bolt on suspension, brake, wheels, ect. components. They can always be changed back if you want it origanal again.

Good luck, keep us posted!

Original restored cars will always hold better through economic hardships. Modded cars are cool but they stay with the era they were built in. 25 years from now the car will need redone if using today's aftermarket. If done right and you can do the work yourself you'll be fine either way.

If you have over 75% original content I would stay that way especially if this was a 4 barrel car.

I will most certainly keep everyone posted, on the build.

I'm with you on value, of original cars. I hope to live another 25 years to see the outcome,of the direction I take. I'm 64 years young now.
I will use all the original driveline parts. As they are all matching. I will be replacing the entire floor pans, rear frame rails, and shock towers,as well as one qtr panel, All spec correct. The left qtr is new, fortunately, it is just screwed in place,so I can remove it for a full shell media blast.
I really appreciate the feedback everyone! Thank You!

If you are pricing your labor, restoring most any car will almost always lose you money when selling it, but by your background you already know that. As for stock, or restomod...everybody appreciates the car as it came. Only some will appreciate it mod'd (depending on how much it's mod'd). Mild mods & safety mods are.often appreciated by most.

Plan on enjoying it a while?...build it to your liking. (but keep all the original parts you can).
Building it to sell?...build it to stock specs.

Welcome and good luck with your project

Welcome from Vermont! We will be watching to see what transpires!

Thanks! I'll do the sheet metal while pondering on how far to go,with mods.
It's my nature to get carried away on projects like this.
Already thinking about building a full tube chassis.

g'day from Australia :welcome: build it how YOU want it then drive the wheels off it and enjoy

Welcome to FBBO from NorCal

I'd say Resto-Mod & have fun...
Build it to taste...
Build a stroker if that floats your boat...
Doing an all OE style rustoration will be a costly endeavor,
it "sometimes" will bring more resale/value, if that's your path,
it's not a smart money path, it can be done, but like others have said,
cost {or time} vs value will never be met...

More you can do yourself the better,
sounds like you do have experience...

Good luck & Happy Moparing
