I have a 950 Holley Carb on a 440 that puts out 700 HP. The carb is a race version and does not have the lower plate that gives access to vacuum for the power breaks, nor ports to attach the breather hoses. I purchased a Holley plate and it has some extra holes in it, that I am unaware of their function. Can anyone tell me what these holes are for? How can I plug them or do they have another function? This carb plate came with no directions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, those big holes that go all the way through are for the throttle shafts/blades. It looks like you'll need to disassemble your current baseplate and transfer the parts over.

what intake are you using? it may be easier to just drill and tap that for a vacuum fitting

I currently do not have a plate under my carb, that is why I bought this one. I wanted to get some vacuum to boost my brakes. A friend told me this may not work because I have a race carb and set up. I have a 950 Holley, double pumper carb.

I want to make sure this will work before I modify this plate. If it is not going to work, I will send it back and put it towards some gages maybe. If it can work, I will definitely be inclined to tap those holes and plug them. Anyone have experience with something like this? Any pics would also help? Thanks for your replies and have a great New Year!

How much vacuum do you have with a 700 HP 440? Enough to run power brakes? Is this a dead horse flog?

I do not understand the language IQ52 is using. If the baseplate will not work, what will make the carb spacer work? The carb spacer is a lot cheaper! I am trying to reduce the height of the carb, as it is already too high for my 3 inch scoop in the fiberglass hood I have. At this point I am going to have to buy a new hood with bigger scoop, as it is hitting and I don't even have a filter on it yet. Let me know if you have experience with this, or if you are just guessing about whether the carb spacer will work? Thanks for you replies.

You should post more pics of the part you bought from different angles. We are not sure if the part you just bought will do what we think your asking it to do. IQs remarks are in question of you engine. My guess is that many 700 ho engines HE has made personally didn't make enough vacuum at idle to make using power brakes possible. I would be inclined to doubt this as well. We are not going to be much help if we don't have the information we need
