Can't seem to find a satisfactory answer for this wheel/tire setup....

..And I've searched to the point of slobbering on the keyboard...I am noodling wheel & tire sizes for my 68 Satellite. I would like to get a 295-55-15 on 10s in the back but don't want to roll fender lips or move springs, etc....will this fit? What about backspacing, 5.5? Just don't want any clearance issues, otherwise I will go to a 275-60 on an 8 or 8.5, either way I want them tucked in the fender wells, not have the body sitting up over them thanks everyone! Oh pics of similar setups would be very cool too:D

A friend of mine has 15 X 10 steelies on a 69' sport satellite and they clear fine. I can't remember if they were 5 or 5.5 back space though.

I have 15x10 5.5 BS with 295/50 on a 70 RR. fits perfectly.

(50 would be the series)...but I get what you mean doesn't seem fat enough to be a 295..I do like how it sits in the fenderwell though! That's why I'm thinking 295/55, will have some girth but be about 28" tall....

You mean a 295, 50 is the height of the tire's cross-section to its width.

Here a 295. Beep! Beep!

Now that's a 295!....that's what I'd like to squeeze in but man it looks tight near the fender. I don't want to roll the lip but definitely wouldn't want to tear up my nice expensive sidewalls!

I have a 70 Road Runner. Drove it across country with 275/60 on 8" rims with 4.5" of backspacing. Even those would hit when there were four of us and the suspension bottomed out on a big bump. Otherwise they have been fine. I would suspect that while 295 might be able to squeeze in, they will rub sometimes on bumps, hard cornering, etc.

That's a niiiice 70..ya I'm not totally opposed to 275s either..I got plenty of time to figure it out!

Please share your wheel and tire specs front and rear? That is a very good looking stance!
8x15 BS 4" front and 10x15 BS 5.5" rear with front 245/60/15 BF Goodridge and rear 295/50/15 Cooper.

here a picture from under the car, distance between leaf spring and distance between fender lip.

leafs or fender? How close are they to the leafs?

Neither. They would rub on the "bulge" in the inner wheel wells (outboard side). Some people have worked to remove these bulges to accept larger tires. Note that I have stock and original Hemi suspension, stock wheel wells and stock body lines etc. There are no rear suspension modifications of any kind.

Good luck with your choices, and I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more pictures.

Hmm thanks.. definitely some things to think about. I guess the best bet would try to make some mockups or borrow and take it from there... Thanks for all your replies everyone!

To be clear, the 275's work 99% of the time. Remember this rubbing only happened on my drive across country. We had the trunk full of luggage for four people, camping gear, spare parts, tools, cooler, etc. PLUS we had 4 people in the car - it was LOADED! It has never happened before or since. My 73 Road Runner has NEVER rubbed with 275s. I think you are pretty safe with 275/60R15 tires in the back for 99% of the cases. Personally, I think they fill up the wheel well nicely and give the car a nice stance.
