Heat crossover is blocked and I don't want the starting problems of not having a choke. The choke that's on it is trash, if I replace the choke with a new piece, it will still open up fully, right? I realize it will take longer but as long as it opens, it's better than a manual choke.

You know, I saw a post (I think here) about somebody who built an electronic heater to go inside the choke housing. I believe it was for a 4 bbl. choke, but it should work on a six pack too. Basically, his gizmo had its own heater for the choke coil & looked relatively simple to build...wish I had the link (sorry)...maybe search for it. It's either on here or Moparts.

If you replace the choke & have the cross-over blocked off....."maybe" it will open up. I mean, you've blocked off the heat that's supposed to operate it & that little coil inside the choke still needs to heat up before it can open the choke flap, so it "might" never fully open....I'm not sure.

I personally like manual chokes on Holleys. I had a 750 vac. secondary 4 bbl. with one stock, but I have yet to figure out how to put that choke on a six pack center carb or i'd already have done it. The brackets are different.

i saw what you are talking about but I think you have to modify the intake to accept it. I don't know but it would seem to me that (it would take longer but eventually everything metal is going to be the same temperature, with out without a crossover...guess I'll find out.

That's hard to say. I mean "eventually" the metal will heat up, but then what good is blocking the heat crossover? I've often thought about trying to cut up & modify the Holley manual choke setup for six-pack use (but I like manual chokes). Maybe just pull off the choke completely (including flapper)? It'll stall when it's cold, but at least you're SURE it will be fully open.

the old original choke assemblies were adjustable. unfortunately the newer ones aren't. i use a blocked off heat valley pan gasket and drill 1/2" holes in it at the cross over to get some heat but at the same time have some control.

A manual choke is available new and it has a small learning curve to get used to. This is my route on my small block.

it will still open up fully, right?

Yes, provided you run it long enough. Expect the black cloud out the tailpipe to linger until it does.

A couple chokes I have are adjustable (Lean/Rich). The one on the right is the MP. Other than that one could possibly add slight bend to shorten the rod to reduce closed tension.

Follow-up on the 6-pack choke set-up thread, 10k miles down the road, still a fully correctly functional automatic choke with a blocked cross-over.

That's a pretty cool setup! I've heard a few times that a divorced choke won't work properly with blocked crossovers and that looks like a good way to get around it.
Mine has open crossovers original choke and it all works great, no problems.

You do know that the factory used a electric assisted choke at one time, well after the high performance years. They figured out the heat cross over was clogging up and needed to get them past the warranty year.

yes, but they didn't make one for the 6 bbl. I know how to add the electric heat to the choke but if I could find one that would work, I'd just scrap the whole thing and use a manual.

Holley does not make a manual choke conversion kit that will fit the Mopar OE spec. 2300 series center carb. The kit they do make will only fit their aftermarket carbs directly.

my center carb is not original, so you are saying there is one that will fit it? Part number?

The only manual conversion kit Holley makes is for their integral auto electrical choke used with most of their aftermarket carbs. There is also a kit to go from manual to auto, again only fits the aftermarket carbs. If it’s a divorced choke design as was the center carb on all six-packs, the manual conversion kit will not fit. The mounting points needed for the kit are not there, completely different design.

Yeah, I knew about that one but I would have thought somebody would have put a kit together for these carbs by now. Guess not
