Quick Fuel Technology Carb issues

I have a QFT Slayer carb and honestly, it is kicking my butt. I have called QFT (holley) tech support and first they suggested I needed to rebuild the carb. Bought their carb rebuild kit and guess what? Same damn issues after rebuild!

I searched the archive forums and have not found any answers.

Problem 1: When adjusting the floats, I loosen the screw(s) on top of each carb head and then loosen the nut under the screw top so the floats move up/down and line up with the factory marks. Tighten the nut and screw down, start car and fuel bottoms out, car stops running. Loosen screw and nut, raise fuel level higher than factory mark. Tighten nut and screw down, start car, fuel weeps out of the nut/screw position. I have replaced the washer between the carb head and nut and the washer between the nut and screw head (twice).

Problem 2: Adjusting the fuel screws (4) while on the phone with QFT tech support, did absolutely nothing positive. Car runs like it is starved for fuel, no acceleration, just mopes along.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
O.K. just to be clear, you said "tighten nut and screw, start car" are you making these adjustments with the car running because you need to.
 
Well if running you're gonna have fuel leaking around lock screw& adjuster nut. Maybe ur turning too much at a time? 1/4 turn at a time shud make a notable difference. MAYBE you have a vacuum leak??
 
If you just did a rebuild and set everything per instructions the floats should have been real close already.

Give it a try, been doing it this way for years with probably no more fuel loss than those doing it otherwise. There's a trick to turning the screw along with the nut to never allow it loose enough to spew gas and allows you to watch the affects in fuel level as you adjust. Keep in mind I have large sight glass windows

I am not making adjustments with the car running. With the fuel weeping out, I would not like to have a flash fire. The tuning booklet as well as the tech support advised to not make adjustments while engine is running.

You said yourself your not doing it so why bother lol. Tuning book blah blah, they all advise you not to do this or that for fear of liability.


The trick is to loosen the screw just enough to be able to turn the nut then chase the nut with the screwdriver as you adjust so as to never allow it to get loose. Also I'm a neat freak with my engine compartment, all plug wires are neatly routed well away from the carb, wires all tucked away cleanly and you can usually eat off of my engine so it's not a contaminated mess. Also I keep a fire extinguisher in my garage incase I do something stupid like....:lol:
