So I've been looking for an 03-04 QC,SB,6 speed Cummins. Found one sold the day before I got there. Of course found a QC,LB,Auto that I couldn't pass up. Negotiated a price ahead of looking at it so we didnt waste each others time, with it being known if its **** I'm walking away. Then I get "I dont have the title". His bank isn't open on weekends and I dont have time to take off and go to the bank with him that's two hours away. He says I can pay him, get a bill of sale take the truck and he will mail the title. He has been honest, upfront, provided alot of photos and receipts, but I never asked about the title so my fault, but wish it was mentioned earlier like a week ago. So I told him when he has the title we'll talk again. Pretty sure I did the right thing, never had this happen but I know a few that have been screwed by a situation similar.

Lives hand-to-mouth. He can't get the title for two reasons 1.) He needs your money first 2.) He don't really own the truck. If he uses the money on something important (pfft!) before he gets the title from the bank, you become a forced creditor (screwed). You made the right decision, whether he intends to be honest at this point or not is irrelevant.

X2 - you made the right call. If you’re really in love with the truck you could call the bank, verify they have the title, and make arrangements to pay them directly. Problem is they’ll still send him the title. That sounds like way more trouble than it’s worth.

That’s not a used truck it’s a stolen truck. Not an honest man. Very wise to run the other way!

Maybe, when he has a title then resume talks.

You made the absolute right decision, dont even think for a second you didn't !!
Sure he wants you to pay him and take the truck and he'll mail the title, bullshit and he's got balls.
The real question is who sells a vehicle knowing they dont have a title in hand.

I'm starting to find out everyone. Dealers suck when it comes to diesel, you go a look and it's got blowby or injectors are about toast. I can wait patiently for the right opportunity

Found my 97 diesel just about a mile from the house in 2001 and still have it. Had looked at bunches of them and they all had their tongues hanging out with a lot of miles but the one I bought was head and shoulders above the others. Just couldn't believe how good it ran and yes, gave it a good test. The only problem with it was the red paint was faded and the clear coat was falling apart on the top. Had always planned on painting at least the top but so far, that hasn't happened.

And there's no way I'd do a bill of sale. The bill of sale to me is him signing the title over along with a signed (by the seller) Application for Title. That's how it works in Texas.

My 19 year old just bought a Truck.. 3 hours away in Virginia. We went down last Saturday to look at it and test drive it. He likes Ford's so he bought a 2015 F-150 Lariat with the middle sized bed. Very nice, loaded, well maintained and It's black metallic with black leather interior. Dealer was weird as they would not accept a deposit so he has hold agreement till 12/9 closing time.. He works and is gone from 5:30am-6pm everyday. Luckily his boss took off one day this week early for his wife who went into labor so he was able to get the bank check and his cashier check so we can pick it up tomorrow morning. So no running around in the am for bank stuff...

So finally he has the title, sort of. The bank has a lien release and they put the title in my name and are sending me the title. Talk about weird ****. So I pick it up tomorrow, sign some forms at the bank and it's done. Makes me not want to buy vehicles.
Beat part is I'm excited and nervous about the cummins, I've never owned one but I like working on diesels, I work on them daily but they're UTVs, Bobcats and mowers. I already have a 2 mic filter on the way, the guy I'm buying from is a diesel mechanic and only runs a stock which I thought was weird. 2000+ for injectors I'll spend 200 for the filter. Since the 50hp injectors have 50k on em so he says.
Has a fresh rebuilt trans and valve body with shift kit and 2k on 37s. Hope I like it or it's gone around tax return time.
