Hello all, I am well on my way to my first turbo build, but I still have some questions, todays is intake manifolds. My build is a blow through carb deal, and it generally is recommended to run a single plane intake. I also hear it recommended that you make the most N/A power possible with your combo before boost, as boost is just a multiplier of power, which makes perfect sense to me.

I ended up picking an M1 single plane for my "B" engine, as I recall it being one of the best single planes for power. Well, thats all well and good, but it's a tall sucker, and the stock hood on my 67 Belvedere just won't work. I have heard other people say the intake on a blow through carb deal is really just a gasket between the turbo and heads, and it's not that important. If that is true, much lower single planes exist I could use, but not at the cost of more than a couple HP to me.

Anyone with experience care to weigh in?

Much appreciated.

I have limited experience with low-decks, but I know the Holley street dominator is considered a very good manifold, and it is quite short.
The tm6 tarantula is the original version of the 383 torker, and if it's like the 440 versions, the tm6 has the same carb height, but taller (larger) ports, and would likely flow quite a bit more, in a boosted application.
I'm pretty sure the sd,torker, and tm6 are all out of production, available used only.

383 torkers used go for about a $100 at the swap meets.I had no problem with hood clearance on my 64 Belvedere.

We did the same thing with my sons 360 turbo car. Just found a low rise single plane. Same with the exhaust. 1 7/8" truck manifolds tuned around backwards. Makes an easy 850 hp.

well, it looks like I am intake shopping again.. I'd like to chassis dyno this when done, maybe I can try a high and low intake to see if boost really cares. Thanks for the replies.

Little late to the party but on my 66 Satellite with the stock flat hood, I cleared by about 3/16'' with the edelbrock torker 383 manifold, holley super sniper 1250 (bit taller than a holley carb), and a blow through 4150 hat off ebay, on my supercharged 383.

Thanks for the reply, I haven't picked up a lower intake yet, so all information is welcome.
