Loved ones in hospitals....Drs and Nurses with poor communication skills...

Waiting for information is the worst. I understand that hospital personnel are usually overloaded and can't administer personal service like in a restaurant, but we're talking about life and death here. Hang in there greg...

Kern, we were just talking with some friends earlier about this. Seems as though the whole medical field is so wrapped up in the COVID mindset that anything else just doesn’t matter. And doctors/nurses are like anybody else, there are some fantastic people and there are some real pricks. I have to deal with a half dozen doctors for various medical problems, it takes a while to find the right ones, ones that you can get along with. I’ve had a few that I’d like to choke. Hope things come out alright.

66383, our deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Part of the problem is that SOME people are shitty communicators. What THEY deem to be "making progress" may be entirely different to the family. He was standing and walking before being hauled away in the ambulance. He can barely stand now.
Sis is all alone at home, waiting for the next time that she can call to learn more. Why can't they spell out the events of the day, give a status report, then outline what the overall goal is for the patient? Why does the family have to be the one to ask all the questions? The hospital staff do this EVERY day with hundreds of people a year. WE don't have the experience, THEY do. The responsibility to inform their "customers" lies with them since they are the only ones allowed to interact with the patient and the medicine.

Hospitals are like a body shop for our cars...somewhere none of us like to be .
I’ve met some good, some horrible, bed side manners and treating folks like we are a loved one has hit the skids, throw in a foreign doctor with broken English and my blood pressure will sky rocket because I can’t understand them... or one that is above me... I had one years ago when dad had a massive stroke treat my family like crap and I said to the nurse if I don’t get some answers I’ll be waiting at his car and it won’t start.. (wrong approach I know ) I wasn’t mad at her either. I explained we just needed answers .. my thing is treat everyone like they are someone’s loved one and be respectful. Problem solved! My son just became an ER tech and that’s what I explained to him always be respectful. Guys I’m sorry for your losses, and KD I hope you family member makes it thru ok.. we all pull our pants up on leg at a time..!

She was able to speak with a member of the hospital who then made a few calls.
The President of the hospital called to apologize and said he would make a few calls of his own.
An hour or so later, the Dr called and was a P R I C K ! He obviously didn't like being questioned or called out for his shitty behavior.
Yeah, it's a pet peeve of mine. Doctors seem to think that they're demi-gods, and aren't answerable to the plebians such as myself....yet they get paid, WHATEVER the outcome of their services. AND they should remember, they are just service providers. A Compassion 101 class should be a requirement in med school.

I had a mini-stroke about a week and a half ago and was recently released.. @Kern Dog I get your frustration and pray for a speedy recovery for your brother-in-law.
That was exactly my frustration with the doctor.. Didn't explain **** and just expected me to understand. I just had a ******* stroke! I didn't understand ****. So he talked to me like an I am an idiot, and still explained nothing. He got pissed when I got my wife on the phone and asked her to put this crap in plain english (she is a nurse and agrees doctors suck at communicating). They didn't allow visitors, so I would put her on speaker whenever they came in. LOL... They were not fans of that.
I wasn't a complete *** because my wife is a nurse at that hospital and she didn't want the drama.

Oh man, you okay now?

Thank you for asking! I am getting better. Still having some issues, but doc said these should clear in time. Scary.. There is no history of stroke in my family. And I thought I was too young. I am only 51 and take good care of myself.

Quit watching the news and ESPECIALLY the Biden imbeciles

I had an emergency appendectomy back in October, just two days before the worst ice storm to hit the area in 40 years. I felt like my gut was going to explode! My wife was permitted to stay with me in the room for as long as she wished, which was great, considering the wu-flu nonsense. I really thought I was going to die there, though. The surgeon and the anesthetist were both very cordial and professional, and explained everything beforehand to me. I was quit amazed, truly. They clubbed me like a baby seal, did their thing, got rolled up to my room, and things were great! I wrote a fairly glowing survey of my stay. Insurance covered all but $600 of a $40K bill. And, believe it or not, some of the best food around...in a hospital!

I asked my nurse "how many people are in this hospital with that Covid?" She told me "Two." Just two. This, in a time when the local media frenzy was in top gear about how "overwhelmed" hospital facilities "couldn't cope" with the alleged onslaught. This is one of the very largest hospitals in the state! But, I digress...

With a total of two days in the hospital, I was released just in time to drive home in the beginnings of the ice storm. Four more days of fun off of work while two inches of ice covered everything. No power for a week. Glad the generator was gassed up and I had additional fuel available!

Sis got a call this morning....From her HUSBAND.
He remembers nothing. Complete blank slate. He remembers taking a nap on Friday, then waking up in the hospital. He was chattering on and on so if there was brain damage, it appears to be slight. Time will tell though. This does NOT excuse the poor communication of the staff though.

That's a step in the right direction!!
